What makes for a good wedding? For Franz and Caitlin, all it took was a handful of good strong friends (with good strong backs), a backcountry hut reservation and a whole lotta love! A couple nice design touches and little gumption made it an unforgettable ceremony.
We skinned in 6 miles in blowing snow and diminishing visibility, most of us wearing full packs and towing sleds full of wedding necessities (dress clothes, decorations, libations and more sausages than I've ever seen). The hut was a wash with drying ski gear, but there was no question that this wasn't an ordinary hut trip. Guests worked together to prepare the celebratory meal, decorate the walls and drink all the heavy beverages.
By the morning, the blowing snow had turned to heavy slush and rain, so we moved the ceremony inside. No bother, the loft of the Bradley Hut served as a great altar and backcountry officiant Seth set the tone wonderfully. It was a cozy wedding, full of love and the support of friends. And really, that's all you need!
