Winter family fun, on the cover of the truckee visitors guide, we shot the cover, and have a few interior shots as well. You can check them out live in the magazine, or on the tear sheets page at my site or the Truckee Chamber of Commerce.

Good winter conditions have been scarce in the Tahoe backcountry this season, bluebird powder even more so. This past storm cycle gave us a great late season opportunity to get both, so we headed out to the north side of Castle Peak on Donner Summit this weekend. Quite a few people had the same idea, but there is enough terrain out there for everyone. Seth Dow cornered the market on this cornice, working it with the spire of Castle in the background.

What makes for a good wedding? For Franz and Caitlin, all it took was a handful of good strong friends (with good strong backs), a backcountry hut reservation and a whole lotta love! A couple nice design touches and little gumption made it an unforgettable ceremony.

We skinned in 6 miles in blowing snow and diminishing visibility, most of us wearing full packs and towing sleds full of wedding necessities (dress clothes, decorations, libations and more sausages than I've ever seen). The hut was a wash with drying ski gear, but there was no question that this wasn't an ordinary hut trip. Guests worked together to prepare the celebratory meal, decorate the walls and drink all the heavy beverages.

By the morning, the blowing snow had turned to heavy slush and rain, so we moved the ceremony inside. No bother, the loft of the Bradley Hut served as a great altar and backcountry officiant Seth set the tone wonderfully. It was a cozy wedding, full of love and the support of friends. And really, that's all you need!

It's been a quiet kind of winter for photography on the summit, but we've finally got some weather worth sharing! One week, 88" of snow, not too shabby! We've been focusing on learning some HDR post techniques, all in the name of developing a personal style. It's a fun process, very meditative, very iterative in nature. Even though HDR typically utilizes multiple exposures synched into one final image, you can run the techniques with a single photo, in the case of serious action! Devin C Gill shows his unique personal style here at Sugar Bowl; we're just trying to do it justice.
