On the card it says artist. But that’s just because we don’t have enough room to accurately describe Willie C Cordy Jr. We’re thrilled to have him joining us for our first run!

Willie Cordy Jr is an adjunct professor of Foundation & Digital Media Arts at Clark Atlanta University in the
Art and Fashion department, The University of West Georgia and Regent University. Cordy is the former
Lead Media Arts & Animation professor at the Art Institute of Atlanta and Virginia Beach campuses. Cordy
Jr is an award-winning Illustrator, Animator Art & Creative Director of film short “Rise Up & Fight”. His
industry work include; animation and film, the comic book industry, children’s books, fashion, graphic
design industries, and education. He is a product of Norfolk State University where he earned two master’s
degrees, one of them being his terminal degree in art. He is also an award-winning educator and artist. He
was an artist and designer in the 90’s in the music industry for various artists. Cordy has been a key
presenter at Pop Culture & American Culture’s Association National conferences on Black Representation
& Diversity in Comics & Publishing. He’s recognized and awarded many times in his home community of
Hampton Roads Virginia for community service, and activism.
His works been included in the Norfolk State University Gallery, The Selden Arcade Norfolk, permanently
included in the Singletary African Art Gallery & Museum, and the Port of Harlem magazine featuring his
works on Sebastian Lemba, John C Robinson and Mansa Musa, for the Juffureh Museum of Slavery, the
Gambia. Cordy is the Creator and CEO of Cordy Studio & City Earth Publishing. Cordy’s current project
include the creation and building of “The Cordy Museum of Afrofuturism” in Atlanta Georgia.

We had our first activation at MomoCon this past weekend, and simply had a blast. It was great to see a ton of genuine interest in the convention! We set up with the intent to help get the word out, pass out flyers and get site signups. We inadvertently sold a nice little gaggle of tickets.
Big thanks to the crew, Melony Isaac Ash Lou Bianca Nicole Kelly Burnham Teresa Kennedy Kituria Gaines Leonard Millsaps for putting up with all the twists and turns!! The best way to create something special is to team up with special people.

Yes yes we know. Another juggernaut in the Black Comic Book Community. We introduce our next guest, Big Phill, aka DJ Big Phill aka Phillip Thompson get acquainted!!!

Phillip Thompson, also known as Big Phill is a distinguished collector and cultural advocate whose passion for comic book art and African American history has made a significant impact in the art and entertainment communities. A lifelong collector since childhood, Big Phill has dedicated himself to "getting the history right" in terms of the cultural and historical context of African Americans in comic books. His commitment to preserving and showcasing original comic book art has positioned him as one of the top collectors in this culturally relevant space.

Big Phill's groundbreaking project, Collections in Black, debuted at the August Wilson Center, where it garnered acclaim for its insightful exploration of African American contributions to the comic book genre. This exhibit not only showcased original comic book art but also featured the film Collections in Black, which he shot, edited, and scored himself. As a respected filmmaker, producer, and DJ, Big Phill's multifaceted talents shine through in his work.

Following its premiere at the August Wilson Center, Collections in Black continued its journey to Orlando for the Original Art Expo. The project further expanded its reach with a screening in Charlotte, which led to a pop-up exhibit showcasing original art. Excitingly, a full exhibit is scheduled to open in June at Nine Ninety Eight Studios/Gallery in Charlotte.

In collaboration with “Paint for Hire,” Collections in Black also presented a gallery during the the time of the NFL Draft, entitled "Panels," which highlighted the intersection between comic book art and graffiti. This innovative approach underscores Big Phill's dedication to bridging diverse cultural expressions.

Big Phill’s work has been featured on several prominent platforms, including the syndicated TV show America’s Black Forum and The American Dream* which airs on HGTV and the Travel Channel. He is currently a host on the Black Comic Lords YouTube channel, where he contributes to the Wednesday Wrap-Up Show, engaging with a community of comic book enthusiasts.

In addition to his current projects, which include another film , several YouTube series such as “collections in Black OAX all access”, and the writing of two upcoming comic books, Big Phill has released a limited edition preview of his upcoming coffee table book, Collections in Black, with plans for a full version set to be released by the holidays. His insights and expertise have also been spotlighted on websites like BlackGrail.com, where his passion for comic book history and original art continues to resonate.

As a well-respected voice in the cultural original art space, Phillip Thompson, aka Big Phill, is not just an important figure in the realm of comic books; he is a dynamic force dedicated to celebrating and preserving the rich narratives of African Americans in this vibrant medium. His ongoing projects and community engagements promise to further enrich the cultural landscape, ensuring that the stories and contributions of African Americans in comic books are recognized and celebrated for generations to come. *Taps mic: Next up on the guest announcements!

Tiffany “MzzSkittles” Richardson is a published cosplayer, multidisciplinary creative, and proud blerd originally from the DMV, now based in Atlanta. A longtime convention lover turned cosplayer, Tiffany began her cosplay journey in 2017 after debuting Storm from X-Men at DragonCon, and hasn’t looked back since. Known for crafting approximately 90% of her own cosplays, her work spans foam smithing, makeup artistry, closet cosplay, and original character design.

Beyond cosplay, Tiffany is the founder of STRich Design Studio, co-founder of Urban Anime Lounge, co-host of The Blerd Spectrum, and a full-time graphic designer with a passion for visual storytelling. As her creative journey has evolved, so has her platform. What began as a cosplay-focused space has recently expanded into a multi-creative haus, showcasing not only cosplay but also original character creation, design, branding, wearable art, creative entrepreneurship, and the many intersections of fandom and artistry.

Today we’re honored to announce Joseph P Illidge as our next guest at Black Atlanta Comic Expo. Excited to have his knowledge, talent and experience in the building. But we’re gonna be quiet and let the bio speak for Mr. Illidge

Joseph P. Illidge is a Brooklyn, New York-born writer, editor, and columnist. His latest comics and graphic novel work includes Image Comics /Todd McFarlane Productions' horror spy action series Bloodletter, DC Comics' New History of The DC Universe: The Dakota Incident and Milestone’s The Shadow Cabinet.

Joseph's recent work includes the Judge Kim and the Kids' Court series of children's books for Simon & Schuster, and The Winterfields, a Harlem Renaissance crime noir graphic novel saga for FairSquare Graphics' anthology series Noir Is The New Black. His upcoming work includes the Harriet Tubman middle grade graphic novel for Harper Collins and The Ren adult fiction graphic novel for Macmillan's 23rd St. Books.

Joseph is the founder of the story and strategy studio, Illuminous, and he has been featured on the History Channel’s Superheroes Decoded documentary.
