One of the things I still love about mixing is the physicality of it.

On a console, there were times when a final pass literally took several sets of hands—someone on the vocal, someone on guitars, someone riding effects.

PSP Audioware’s PSP Levelizer brings a little of that feeling back for me.

It feels less like a corrective tool and more like another set of hands on the desk, helping a performance move without flattening it.

That’s the part I respond to. Music breathes. Levels should too.

It’s now simply part of how I work at SoundShop370.

As many know, David Bowie had an enormous impact on me as an artist. His fearlessness, his curiosity, and the way he continually pushed against whatever he’d done before shaped a great deal of how I came to think about making music.

And, of course, Tony Visconti is such an enormous part of that story. The sound of those records—the drums, the rooms, the space around everything—is simply embedded in me.

So yeah… having Tony Visconti’s drums inside my DAW is pretty damn incredible.

Toontrack has captured something here that immediately feels familiar without feeling like you’re simply trying to recreate the past. I can already hear where these sounds are going to live in my own music.

Thank you, Tony. Thank you, Toontrack.

You all nailed the sound, feel and space.

UVI (UVI’s) Super-7 has been a great writing tool for me.

I love the movement in it—the pulse, the energy, the way a simple part can immediately give a track some direction.

There’s definitely an old-school character to it, which I’m drawn to, but I use it because it works. Sometimes it supports an idea that’s already there. Other times, one sound or sequence is the thing that starts the whole track.

That’s usually the best kind of instrument for me.

Teletone Audio’s Scarbo has become one of the most inspiring instruments I’ve used in quite some time.

What I love most is the movement inside the sounds. There are textures, shifts and small imperfections that feel alive—and I often find myself following an idea somewhere I hadn’t planned on going.

That’s a rare quality in an instrument.

Scarbo doesn’t just give me another palette of sounds. It gives me a different way into a piece of music.

I’ve been genuinely inspired by what it’s bringing out of me at SoundShop370.

I’ve got many versions of a Prophet 5 at SoundShop370… but GForce Software has created THE DEFINING version that leaves the rest behind. Its expression is fantastic and the sonic plate is immediately musical and inspiring.

Also, a great display of what this instrument can do is shown on a recent EP called “The Prophet” which came out at the end of June under Robin Rimbaud’s ( Robin Rimbaud - Scanner ) SCANNER alias.
