💡 **DID YOU KNOW?**
Your pottery goes into the kiln wearing **tiny little shoes.**
Sort of. 😂
They're called **stilts**, and they're the reason we can glaze all the way around—and underneath—many of the pieces you paint at Kiln Creations.
Glaze melts during firing, so if your freshly glazed pottery sat directly on the kiln shelf, it could fuse itself right to it.
Instead, we carefully balance pieces on little ceramic or metal stilts with tiny points that keep the glazed surface off the shelf.
After firing, we remove the stilts and smooth those teeny contact points on the bottom of your piece.
So those **three or four tiny marks** you sometimes notice underneath your finished pottery?
That's where it stood while spending several hours in a **1,800°+ kiln.** 🔥
Tiny stilts.
Thousands of degrees.
Hundreds of pieces of pottery.
**And yes, loading a kiln sometimes feels exactly like an extremely high-stakes game of Tetris.** 😂
