Lots of stuff has been happening in our humble little shop. My last formal update found Gordon teaching a new apprentice who has ultimately parted on less than favorable terms and hasn't been seen since. I still say good riddance. We experienced the brief return of Gordon's best student, who is down but not out (we hope) Rusty is off fighting the good fight but will always have a home if he needs one.
Saying goodbye to a talented artist and wonderful human being was hard, but necessary. We wish The Oz Man the best of luck in whatever he does.
You may have noticed that the shop name has changed slightly...and perhaps not for the last time.
After much begging and a bit of pleading, we are proudly honored to share a space with the best tattoo artist that Charleston has to offer. Temporarily or longer, Mr. PaulE Hysell is rocking his masterpieces alongside Gordon once again. Such a union has not been witnessed in almost 15 years when PaulE's Skin Invaders (Nitro) took in a young Gordon Grant and gave him his best and biggest break. Ups and downs, forward steps and backwards ones, it's simply natural to have them back on the same team. 27 years of experience in one, the other working on his 23rd year...that's almost FIFTY (50) YEARS combined behind a machine. Two artists, fifty years. Wow. You can't find that around here in a shop with 4 tattooists.
Gordon may have started the shop, but Tattoo Asylum belongs to all of us now. Respect, kiddies, it really is everything.
Me? I'm going strong when strength finds me. My professional career turns fourteen years old in August and that's what gets me through. I love doing what I love, ya know? All the thousands of wonderful people who allow me to decorate them continue to be the reason I get out of bed when I do. I love you all and you wear my thanks in yourselves every single day. Sparkle on my darlings.
Xoxo,
Sasha "MoldyLocks Dreaded Doll" Grant
