Friends - Were you lucky to catch Mike Munson at Grassroots this spring? Check out this live session he did with KAXE / KBXE just before visiting us in Nisswa. You'll hear about the soon-to-release Mike Munson Trio record "Sometimes, not always," and all sorts of good stuff. Grateful to Northern Community Radio for all they do to support artists in Minnesota.

On a roundabout way to the Grassroots Concert Series, Minnesota musician Mike Munson stopped by KAXE’s On the River, bringing both his music and conversation to life.

Performing three songs live in the studio — “Kansas City Lightning,” “Modern Life,” and “Sinner” — Munson offered a window into his influences and the creative spirit behind his work.

Last night was beautiful, wholesome, fun. We wrapped up our spring music series with folk trio from Minneapolis. The music was excellent, the jokes were on point, and a rare tote bag was sold. We couldn’t have asked for a sweeter conclusion to this season of music and community in Nisswa, MN.

Come enjoy live music in the lakes area! Grassroots Concerts is a non-profit seasonal folk music series. We’ve been bringing legends to the area since 1988. Our final show of the season is FRIDAY, MAY 8th with Minneapolis mainstay - doors are at 6:30.

Co**se Reviver is the name of a cocktail, and also this trio who play forward the songs from Harry Smith’s Anthology of American Folk Music. This is so Grassroots. Imagine a time when new recording technology allowed songs and sounds that were once regional to be shared about. It changed everything.

Brainerd Lakes Area, we hope you can join us for our last show of the spring 2026 season. We’re grateful to have experienced such a variety of sounds and talent this season. Taking their name from a mid-19th century cocktail from New Orleans, is a group of folk musicians from the Twin Cities, MN. They came together in the fall of 2010 for a monthly residency at the infamous 331 Club (in NE Minneapolis) to play forward the music found on Harry Smith’s Anthology of American Folk Music. With authentic drive and nuance, they’ve been performing their own brand of these songs ever since. Co**se Reviver features Adam Kiesling (banjo/guitar/vocals), Mikkel Beckmen (washboard), and Jillian Rae (fiddle/vocals).

Mike Munson was phenomenal on Friday night! What a treat to get to sit back and listen to this humble guitar wizard. We’re so grateful for his visit to our little folk music series. Thanks to everyone who made it out to the show, and please tell your friends about Grassroots! And if ever you see Mike’s name pop up in your area, you must go see him. In fact, you can catch him in Grand Rapids, MN at on June 13th. ✔️
