Choosing a dance studio is about so much more than the schedule and tuition. Before enrolling, here are 10 questions every dance family should ask:
1. What is your teaching philosophy?
What do you believe dancers need to thrive—not just technically, but as people?
2. How do you approach corrections?
Are dancers encouraged, challenged, and taught how to grow from mistakes?
3. What does a typical class look like?
Ask how class time is structured and how technique, skill development, and choreography are balanced.
4. How do you handle different ability levels?
Every dancer should be appropriately challenged without feeling overlooked or overwhelmed.
5. What are your expectations for dancers?
Ask about attendance, dress code, behavior, commitment, and communication.
6. How do you communicate with families?
Clear, consistent communication is a HUGE part of a positive studio experience.
7. What opportunities exist beyond weekly classes?
Performances, workshops, intensives, competitions, community events—what opportunities are available for dancers to grow?
8. How do you prioritize dancer safety?
Ask about flooring, injury prevention, warm-ups, spotting, and how injuries are handled.
9. What does tuition actually include?
Ask about registration fees, costumes, recital fees, competition costs, required classes, and other additional expenses.
10. What do you want your dancers to leave with?
Technique matters. But so do confidence, discipline, resilience, friendships, and a lifelong love of dance.
The right studio should be a place where your dancer can grow, be challenged, feel supported, and become the best version of themselves. ✨
