We’ve lost another great one. I was fortunate to have seen Joe live and his writing and storytelling were some of the best.

Legendary songwriter, singer, and raconteur Joe Ely died today from complications of Lewy Body Dementia, Parkinson’s and pneumonia. His beloved wife Sharon and daughter Marie were at his side at their home in Taos, New Mexico. Ely was born February 9, 1947 in Amarillo, Texas. He was a leader of the extraordinary parade of artists raised in Lubbock who later settled in the live music capital of Austin. Ely signed with MCA Records in the 1970s and spent more than five decades recording and performing around the world. A full obituary and more information will follow in the coming days.

Raul Malo, leader and vocalist for The Mavericks passed away yesterday. One of the great voices in music. Smooth like Roy Orbison, he was an amazing writer and performer. Just this past weekend, there was a 2-day tribute to Raul and the Mavericks at the Ryman Auditorium. He was supposed to attend, but his health was failing quickly and he was unable to make it. The lineup was a who's who in music. If you aren't familiar with The Mavericks, take some time and dive into their catalog.

Sad news. Todd was a brilliant songwriter and performer.

Aimless, Inc. Headquarters is heartbroken to share that our Founder, our Folk Hero, our Poet of the World, our Vice President of the Abrupt Change Dept., the Storyteller, our beloved Todd Daniel Snider has departed this world. Where do we find the words for the one who always had the right words, who knew how to distill everything down to its essence with words and song while delivering the most devastating, hilarious, and impactful turn of phrases? Always creating rhyme and meter that immediately felt like an old friend or a favorite blanket. Someone who could almost always find the humor in this crazy ride on Planet Earth.

He relayed so much tenderness and sensitivity through his songs, and showed many of us how to look at the world through a different lens. He got up every morning and started writing, always working towards finding his place among the songwriting giants that sat on his record shelves, those same giants who let him into their lives and took him under their wings, who he studied relentlessly. Guy Clark, John Prine, Kris Kristofferson, Jerry Jeff Walker.

How do we move forward without the one who gave us countless 90 minute distractions from our impending doom? The one who always had 18 minutes to share a story. We’ll do it by carrying his stories and songs that contain messages of love, compassion, and peace with us. Today, put on one of your favorite Todd Snider records and "play it loud enough to wake up all of your neighbors or at least loud enough to always wake yourself up.” We love you Todd, sail on old friend, we’ll see you again out there on the road somewhere down the line. You will always be a force of nature.

Well, bad news for those attending the SIRSY house concert on October 22. Due to health issues, the band has had to cancel a few shows, including ours. We hope Rich recovers quickly and is back on his feet soon. We will look to reschedule them when their coming back through the area.

As many of our followers know, we are huge fans of the Adam Ezra Group and look forward to their return to our area. This past August, we had the opportunity to attend AEG's Ramble, a pay-what-you-can music festival in Ashburnham, Massachusetts. This year, the festival raised $161,000, which goes to the New England Center and Home for Veterans, and will help take 161 homeless veterans off the streets of New England. We plan on going back next year and would love for others to join us. Learn more here:

We have returned from The Ramble, hosted by the Adam Ezra Group and RallySound. What an amazing event and what incredible people. From the setting on the mountain, the attendees, and especially the cause, helping take homeless veterans off the streets. Such a well run event with such a positive vibe around it.
