Thank you to for sharing the Castellani Art Museum’s new Digital Art Resource Library initiative.

As part of Hardwired: Foundational Works in Digital Art and the museum’s expanding Nanula Digital Art Gallery program, we are inviting artists, writers, curators, professors, historians, and technologists to recommend the books and publications that shaped their understanding of digital art.

Selected titles will become part of an evolving on-site library for students, faculty, museum visitors, and the broader community.

💡🤖 Hardwired: Foundational Works in Digital Art opens soon at the Castellani Art Museum () — and I’m incredibly proud to be curating this one.

This exhibition traces the roots of digital art long before AI and contemporary software. It looks at how artists began working with systems, repetition, video signals, reproduction technologies, and conceptual frameworks that ultimately shaped how we think about digital practice today.

Featuring works from CAM’s permanent collection — including Nam June Paik, Steina and Woody Vasulka, Sol LeWitt, Agnes Martin, Jenny Holzer, and more — Hardwired reframes digital art not as a tool-based movement, but as a shift in artistic thinking.

Opening April 22. More soon.

It’s been a while since I’ve posted here.

Over the past three years, I’ve helped develop a dedicated Digital Art Gallery at the Castellani Art Museum () — creating institutional space for time-based, system-driven, and AI-influenced work.

Two exhibitions anchor this moment:

Ctrl+Alt+Dream: Surrealism Then and Now
📍 April 7 – July 26, 2026

This show places Dalí, Magritte, Man Ray, Miró, and Masson from CAM’s permanent collection in dialogue with contemporary AI artists Inge Schuster (.schuster) and David Szauder (). My focus for this exhibition centers on the evolution of automatism — from subconscious mark-making to text-to-image systems like DALL·E. The prompt becomes the brush. The algorithm becomes collaborator.

Hardwired: Foundational Works in Digital Art
📍 April 22, 2026 – January 9, 2028

Featuring Nam June Paik, Steina and Woody Vasulka, Sol LeWitt, Agnes Martin, Jenny Holzer, Mark Kostabi, Bonnie Gordon, Rita DeWitt, and Robert Martin, Hardwired traces digital art as a conceptual evolution rooted in systems, signal, repetition, and technological engagement — long before AI entered the conversation.

This gallery isn’t about screens. It’s about establishing digital art as part of institutional history.

🗣 Meet Our Speakers 🗣 for Web3 ‘Artivism’ & Censorship w/ on Twitter Spaces this Monday @ 12PM ET

Ndeyfatou Ceesay () is an African artist from The Gambia. She adores the freedom of being able to create. A common theme that runs through much of her work is the power of women, and the efforts in society to control this power.

Shurooq Amin () is an award-winning artist based in Kuwait City with a PhD in Ekphrasis, a 30 year career in art, and a pioneer in socio-political "artivism" in the region.

Jessica Yatrofsky () is a New York-based photographer, filmmaker & author known for work exploring body politics, beauty, and gender.

EP. 14 of Infinite Knowledge will be centered around the topic of artivism and censorship in Web3. Join us alongside a group of likeminded artists where we will discuss how they are using their work as a vehicle for change and awareness.
