It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of Gene Golaszewski.

Gene was a board member and leader at Town Players for nearly twenty years, but his life in community theater ran longer than that — more than twenty-five years — and he did nearly every job it has to offer. He acted. He stage managed. He ran lights and sound. He produced. And then he directed, again and again — *Harvey*, *The Mousetrap*, *A Christmas Carol*, and many more — here at the Little Theatre and at Brookfield Theatre for the Arts and TheatreWorks New Milford.

Late in all of that, he sat down and wrote a play — about theater people and all their idiosyncrasies. Of course he did. Nobody knew us better.

He gave his time and his judgment freely, and he did the work that nobody applauds — the work that keeps the doors open and the lights on. Gene loved this place, and everyone who walked through our doors could feel it.

His wife, Rita, wanted us to know how much the theater meant to him. We want her to know how much he meant to us.

Our hearts are with Rita and the entire Golaszewski family.

Funeral arrangements are pending. We will share them here as soon as we have them.

The Importance of Being Earnest, by Oscar Wilde

Directed by Brian DeToma

Oscar Wilde's play 'The Importance of Being Earnest' is a classic comedy that critiques Victorian society through themes of identity, social obligation, and marriage. The plot unfolds with mistaken identities and romantic entanglements, leading to a humorous resolution. Wilde's work highlights the absurdity of social norms and the superficiality of love, suggesting that appearances often take precedence over truth.

The following roles are available:

Jack Worthing / “Ernest” – A young, respectable bachelor in his early to mid-20s. He is the protagonist, leading a double life as “Jack” in the country and “Ernest” in London.

Algernon Moncrieff – Early to mid-20s, Algernon is Jack’s witty, idle friend and cousin to Gwendolen.

Gwendolen Fairfax – Likely in her late teens to early 20s, she is Algernon’s cousin and Lady Bracknell’s daughter, engaged to Jack.

Cecily Cardew – About 18 years old, she is Jack’s ward and Algernon’s love interest.

Lady Augusta Bracknell – A middle-aged matriarch, in her 50s or older, representing the upper-class social arbiter.

Miss Prism – Middle-aged, she is Cecily’s governess and a symbol of Victorian moral rigidity.

Reverend Canon Chasuble – Middle-aged clergyman, likely in his 50s.

Lane and Merriman – male servants, any age.
