Sincere Thanks to everyone who came out to support me at the Magic Hour event. As pledged, I have donated 50% of my sales to help Artists in the River Arts District of Asheville that suffered incredible loss and devastation. With your support we were able to donate $806 this morning.

Additional thank you goes to all the people that helped make this event happen

This is going to be a somewhat long post for me.

We were incredibly lucky to be about an hour east of the Devastation that Hurricane Helene wrought on Western North Carolina. That said, all of our thoughts and energy has been with those affected as we have scrambled to provide help and assistance in whatever way we can.

This has made it really difficult for me to get excited about and promote the Alchemy Artisan Collective Magic Hour event coming up on October 19th from 5-8pm.

In the aftermath of the disaster we have all come together to figure out how we can redirect this event so that it can be used to assist those that have lost literally everything.

The ticket sales for the event were already benefitting a non-profit, but now in addition to that any remaining monies and all magazine sales will be going to benefit western NC.

I addition to that, I will personally be donating 50% of my sales that evening to the Asheville River Arts District. If you are not familiar, this is an area of Asheville that was filled with artist studios and galleries. It is now decimated. The artists lost their buildings, their artwork, their tools & supplies and their livelihood.

There are obviously tons of great organizations that are working to help those affected, but I felt that artists helping artists would make sense in this instance.

I know it's hard to think about going out for an evening of fun at a time like this, but I encourage you to purchase a ticket and come out to enjoy an evening of art, amazing catered food & beverages, live music and poetry to help us help western NC.

Had had a few questions on whether this was thrown on a wheel or handbuilt. I mostly handbuild. It's just my preference. But you can still build big. This started as a 3/8" slab of clay that I made into a cylinder then started stretching and shaping.

Building bigger... 15lbs of clay this time... Need to leave it overnight and add texture tomorrow.

The mural is officially under way!

What you see right now is called a doodle grid. It's a method that mural artists use to help transfer their design to the wall. The doodle grid is created and then the artist is able to use a phone or tablet to superimpose the design over the doodle grid. This gives them a great reference to transfer their design.

Sometimes pottery is more like getting kicked in the balls than like art...

Especially when your kiln over fires and months worth of work all are damaged and have flaws. Only 3-4 pieces came out undamaged. 😭

Just sharing because normally we all like to share our successes on social media... But the reality is sometimes things don't go your way. ✌🏼
