Julie S. Graham
Exhibition & Fundraiser

March 18, 3 - 6:30 pm

Nearby Gallery - 101 Union Street, Newton Centre, MA

Nearby Gallery is pleased to present an exhibition and fundraiser featuring the work of artist Julie S. Graham. The late Julie S. Graham was a supremely talented and prolific artist and educator. Her contribution to the Boston art scene was immense. Her passing in 2018 left a void in the hearts of her friends, family, colleagues, and lovers of her work. To honor her legacy, those who were close to Julie have worked diligently to create the Julie S. Graham Travel Prize through the School of the Museum of Fine Arts. This unique travel prize will allow SMFA students the opportunity to travel to the Venice Biennale to further their studies.

A selection of Julie's S. Graham’s work is currently on display at Nearby Gallery, and will remain on view until April 16th. Additionally we will be hosting an exclusive showing of Julie’s never before seen works on paper. This event will be held on March 18th from 3 - 6:30 pm.

50% of proceeds from this exhibition will go towards supporting The Julie S. Graham Travel Prize.

We are very excited to officially announce our upcoming exhibition, “Looking So Hard for a Place to Land I Almost Forgot How to Fly” featuring the work of,

Opening reception, March 11th 5:30 - 9:00pm

This exhibition will feature more than fifty works Daniel has produced over the past year and a half. Within the collection, series include graphic paintings depicting personally significant figures through advertising layouts, intricate allegorical compositions, and Benayun’s Wonder Cans. Storytelling through original poems, songs, and other musings contribute to the immersive world of Benayun’s artworks. Each work in the collection is a fragment of a familiar reality freshly reimagined into boundless moments from the past, or perhaps future, of some surreal alternate timeline.

Stay tuned for more updates and to learn more about Daniel's practice!

See you at the opening 🔥

THIS IS AMERICA, opening reception

Despite frigid temperatures, we had such a warm reception for our current exhibition, “This is America.”

Artists and patrons traveled into Newton from all over New England to support the hard work of curator Jamaal Eversley and the 30 artists included in this exhibition.

Check out these photos taken by Samantha Pincus, I think they really capture the mood of the evening.

This reception brought together people from all over the sociopolitical and economic spectrum and was able to cultivated a real sense of community. I think there is something to be said about these moments. Thanks everyone for contributing to this one. This is America.

Stop in before March 4th and see this fantastic group exhibition.

You will not want to miss this one. On Saturday, February the 4th from 6:00-9:00pm, we will be celebrating the opening of “This Is America.” Curated by artist Jamaal Eversley (), this highly anticipated exhibition will include artwork from close to 30 artists working in a variety of different mediums.

This exhibition presents a broad prompt to the artists, but also to the audience. What is America to you? What is it to your neighbor?
Through their work, each artist grapples with the complexities of this question from their own unique perspective.

“ …the purpose of This Is America is to show that unity through diversity of voice and thought brings success to the whole.”

-Jamaal Eversley

Come, listen, share. It’s time to hear one another. See you on February 4th!

Happy New Year from Nearby Gallery! The gallery is back to its normal viewing hours, so stop in this week to see our current exhibition “Meshwar: A Painter’s Return.” This exhibition features paintings by Fouad Tomb and captures his shift towards abstraction after working representationally for most of his career.

Here are some photos from the opening reception! We had a great turnout thanks to the work of co-curator and daughter of the artist, Joelle Tomb (). She has been integral in the development of the Fouad and May Tomb Foundation for the Arts which focuses on archiving their families multigenerational engagement with the arts and art education.

This exhibition will be on view until the 22nd of January. If you’d like to learn more about the catalog or other ways to support the foundation, please email us at [email protected]
