Only 2 weeks to go!

Only 3 weeks to go! We'll have a central spot set up with a big canopy on the concrete slab behind our camper at the far end of the campground. We'll have some Henry Reed family info there. Another 10x20 canopy will be set up in the middle of the other camper/tent area for even more jams. Right along the New River, only about a 2 mile drive off Route 460!

Only a month to go! Camping will be rough/primitive, $20 per spot per night. Tents can be right along the New River or in the other area off the river. Campers can only be in the area off the river, but there's lots of space for you to pick a spot under your favorite tree. No admission fee, you just pay the campground for your camping. There is a small bathhouse with a shower & 2 bathrooms.

We'll set up on Thursday afternoon, can't wait to see y'all there on the river!

A Henry Reed historical highway marker has been approved & will be placed in Glen Lyn.

Henry Reed and Old-Time Music
The tunes played for generations in the mountains of Giles and nearby counties were foundational to the old-time music revival of the 1960s and 1970s. Glen Lyn resident James Henry Neel Reed (1884-1968), known primarily as a longbow-style fiddler, had learned hundreds of tunes beginning in his childhood and was part of a community of musicians who played locally and with family. Alan Jabbour, later the founding director of the American Folklife Center, learned tunes from Reed in the 1960s, played them widely with his string band, and deposited recordings of Reed in the Library of Congress, disseminating traditional Appalachian music and extending Reed’s influence to new generations.

This year's Henry Reed Memorial Celebration will be June 11-13 at Larry's Landing Campground in Narrows (right on the New River). It will basically be the same as the past 3 years, a weekend of music, camping, & fellowship. There is no admission fee, you pay the campground for your camping. More details will be provided over the next week or so, please help spread the word.

Hope to see you there!
