Playing EDNA, the Mayor's wife, please welcome SONYA POMTREE!

Sonya Pomtree is delighted to return to the JCCT stage in Bye Bye Birdie. A retired teacher who spent 38 years at Tuckerman High School, Sonya has appeared in previous JCCT productions including Mamma Mia!, The Sound of Music, and Oklahoma!. One of the things she enjoys most about community theatre is the opportunity to work alongside former students and watch them grow into talented performers and outstanding individuals. She also loves meeting new cast members and reconnecting with longtime JCCT friends.

Sonya's favorite moment in Bye Bye Birdie involves Conrad Birdie's attempts to charm her character, Edna, resulting in one hilarious fainting spell after another. While she prefers ensemble roles to solos, one of her favorite theatre memories was playing the House Executive in The Sound of Music, where she loved working alongside the show's talented young performers.

A devoted fan of musical theatre, Sonya has seen Mamma Mia! an incredible 14 times across five different states and proudly considers it her favorite musical of all time. When she's not on stage, she enjoys attending plays and sporting events, spending time at the beach with her family, and spoiling her beloved dog, Nala.

Sonya would like to thank God for giving her the confidence and opportunity to perform, as well as her family and friends for their constant encouragement and support. She is grateful for every opportunity to continue sharing the joy of theatre with her community.

Join us June 5, 7, 12 & 14 at the ASU-Newport Center for the Arts for this fun, energetic musical comedy featuring Conrad Birdie, screaming fans, and plenty of rock & roll chaos.

Bringing a little civic leadership to Sweet Apple as THE MAYOR, please welcome WALLY SMITH!

Wally Smith is excited to return to the JCCT stage as The Mayor in Bye Bye Birdie. Wally serves as the Facility Coordinator for Jacksonport State Park and has appeared in several recent JCCT productions, including Maurice in Beauty and the Beast, Andrew Carnes in Oklahoma!, and as a member of the ensemble in The Addams Family.

Wally says one of his favorite parts of this production has been the rehearsal process. While the cast has had plenty of fun along the way, he appreciates how dedicated everyone has been to creating an entertaining show for audiences. He especially enjoys the energy and humor of "Kids Reprise," one of his favorite moments in the production.

Wally's love of performing goes back many years. His first acting and singing role was with the youth group at First Baptist Church of Imboden in 1975, beginning a lifelong appreciation for music and theatre. Though he has performed in a variety of productions over the years, he continues to enjoy every opportunity to step on stage and be part of a cast working toward a common goal.

When he's not at work or on stage, Wally enjoys spending time with family and supporting the arts in the community. He would like to thank his wife, Vanessa, for her patience and support throughout the rehearsal process and for always encouraging his involvement in theatre.

Stepping onto the JCCT stage for the first time as MAE PETERSON, please welcome TOMMIE McDONALD!

Tommie McDonald is delighted to make her JCCT debut as Mae Peterson in Bye Bye Birdie. A retired educator, Tommie spent 25 years teaching drama in Batesville and remains an active member of Batesville Community Theatre. With decades of experience helping students and performers discover a love for the stage, she brings a wealth of talent and knowledge to this production.

One of Tommie's favorite parts of working on Bye Bye Birdie has been getting to know the cast and crew while experiencing a new theatre environment. She especially enjoys the heartfelt scene with Albert featuring the song "A Mother Doesn't Matter Anymore," which showcases the special bond between mother and son. If she could play any role in musical theatre, her dream role would be Mame, though one of her favorite roles she has performed was Annie Oakley in Annie Get Your Gun.

When she's not involved in theatre, Tommie enjoys spending time with Batesville Community Theatre and caring for her horses. A lifelong horse enthusiast, she is happiest when she can combine her love of people, theatre, and animals. Her favorite musical is My Fair Lady, and she lives by the advice found in one of her favorite songs: "Enjoy Yourself, It's Later Than You Think!"
