Meet Annie Bloemer, who plays Martha Jefferson in our production of 🇺🇸 1776 📜!

While learning about your character, can you share a fun fact or something that you found surprising about them?
Martha was an accomplished musician herself who played the harpsichord and pianoforte. Thomas Jefferson burned all of their correspondence after her death, and there are no portraits, so not much is known about Martha other than brief second and third hand mentions in letters of family and friends.

Which themes from the show feel especially relevant today?
“Most men with nothing would rather protect the possibility of becoming rich than face the reality of being poor. And that is why they will follow us to the right.”

What is your favorite song or moment in the show? Why?
I love Till Then and the relationship between John and Abigail and how he saw her as an equal and relied upon her advice and judgment. (Even if his respect for women didn't translate into actual rights in the Declaration itself...)

If your character/historical figure could see today's world, what do you think would surprise them the most?
Women did not get the right to vote until 144 years after the signing of the Declaration of Independence.

Favorite President in US History: Teddy Roosevelt

Favorite historical figure: Eleanor Roosevelt

Meet Sienna Glaze, who plays Richard Henry Lee in our production of 🇺🇸 1776 📜!

While learning about your character, can you share a fun fact or something that you found surprising about them?
Richard Henry Lee lost four fingers on his left hand from an accidental rifle explosion but he wore a black silk glove to cover up the injury!

Which themes from the show feel especially relevant today?
Throughout the show we see the struggle of a difference of interpretation of what “freedom” actually means and what it means to be a citizen of a “free” nation. In our current times, we still see this struggle every single day. The difference in interpretation of what it means to be a United States Citizen has caused a world of hurt for so many human beings and families. As a teacher, I get a front row seat to a multitude of different interpretations of “freedom” and what “all men are created equal” means. It’s 250 years after the official date of “freedom” in our nation and the struggle to truly be free remains extraordinarily relevant.

What is your favorite song or moment in the show? Why?
I’m biased but Lee’s song is SO fun. At the ripe height of 5’1 I take large physical comedy very seriously. Outside of my own song (lol typical Lee) I’d have to say Momma Look Sharp because it is beautiful and devastating and bonus my bestie Mary sings the song in our production!

If your character/historical figure could see today's world, what do you think would surprise them the most?
I feel like Hamilton the musical would be so jarring for Lee.

Favorite President in US History: In 3rd grade I was George Washington in a wax museum so that feels important but shoutout to the Obamas

Favorite historical figure: Ruth Bader Ginsberg, does Dolly Parton count?, Helen Keller is so controversial and I think all the theories are fascinating

Meet Alexis Duncan, who plays Joseph Hewes in our production of 🇺🇸 1776 📜!

While learning about your character, can you share a fun fact or something that you found surprising about them?
I feel like some of the characters have a silly side, which has been really fun to play around with as actors!

Which themes from the show feel especially relevant today?
I think this show gives a lot of insight to the personal toll it can take to truly create change in the world.

What is your favorite song or moment in the show? Why?
Lees of Virginia is up there for me simply because the song is so fun to listen to!

If your character/historical figure could see today's world, what do you think would surprise them the most?
I actually think grocery stores would be really surprising to historical figures now! The way food has evolved and is sold, the creating of big restaurants, etc.

Favorite President in US History: I did a project in elementary school on John Adams & had so much fun learning about him.

Favorite historical figure: I LOVE Marilyn Monroe! She broke a lot of social norms just by being herself. I think that’s amazing.

We are excited to invite our d/Deaf and hard-of-hearing community to two ASL-interpreted performances of 🇺🇸 1776 📜 !

Join us Friday, 9/11/2026, at 7:30 p.m., or Sunday, 9/20/2026, at 2 p.m. to celebrate the 250th anniversary of our country’s founding and reflect on its evolution.

ASL interpreters will be located in the front left section of the theater.

While learning about your character, can you share a fun fact or something that you found surprising about them?
He was on trial for impeachment three separate times, but always got acquitted

Which themes from the show feel especially relevant today?
The conversation around Independence and how it, in and of itself, is a contradiction. How do you have freedom while also having rules about freedom?

What is your favorite song or moment in the show? Why?
My favorite part is the “Lees of Virginia” part! It’s the first song I ever knew from the show, and I think it perfectly encapsulates the funny but also historical nature of the show

If your character/historical figure could see today's world, what do you think would surprise them the most?
From what I’ve learned, Samuel Chase was quite the snacker, so I think he’d be in AWE of all the good food we have available now!

Favorite President in US History: Abraham Lincoln! I was always obsessed with his iconic look

Favorite historical figure: Marsha P. Johnson. I am always so inspired when I learn more about her and all she did for the LGBTQ community, in spite of risking her own safety

Meet Abby Schwarz, who plays Caesar Rodney in our production of 🇺🇸 1776 📜!

While learning about your character, can you share a fun fact or something that you found surprising about them?
I love that despite having cancer Rodney rode 80 miles on horseback, through a thunderstorm, to vote for American independence!

Which themes from the show feel especially relevant today?
I feel like independence and all of the amendments are themes that we should always remember and highlight. Our country was founded with the belief that everyone should be free.

What is your favorite song or moment in the show? Why?
I love the song debating what the national bird should be. I think it brings levity to Act 2.

If your character/historical figure could see today's world, what do you think would surprise them the most?
I think he would be very shocked to find that we still haven't completely cured cancer.

Favorite President in US History: JFK

Favorite historical figure: Zheng Yi Sao, also known as Ching Shih, Qing Dynasty pirate queen

Meet Becca Wiesman, who plays Robert Livingston in our production of 🇺🇸 1776 📜!

While learning about your character, can you share a fun fact or something that you found surprising about them?
He negotiated The Louisiana Purchase AND administer the presidential oath to THE George Washington

Which themes from the show feel especially relevant today?
Political discord and the messiness of democracy are on display daily in our country. It feels like we may never get the same sort of compromise again, but I am hopeful.

What is your favorite song or moment in the show? Why?
There is not a singular moment for me, but rather the revealing of the human-ness of these legendary names. This mission took an extraordinary toll on these men and I think that gets glossed over in the history books.

If your character/historical figure could see today's world, what do you think would surprise them the most?
I think he would be most surprised by the size of our country. He died prior to land being acquired west of the Louisiana Purchase, so I think he would marvel at the sheer size.

Favorite President in US History: President Obama. His was the first campaign that I ever donated to!

Favorite historical figure: Cleopatra. Her breadth of knowledge (including multiple languages) and her acumen for navigating political issues makes her stand out as a fierce female leader to me.
