What a wonderful evening of music, talent, and pure joy! Northwoods Performing Arts has created a performance that is uplifting, heartfelt, and memorable — the kind of experience that reminds us why live theatre and music continue to bring people together.
One of the true highlights of the evening was the choir. The richness and beauty of the sound were extraordinary, especially during the beautifully arranged pieces presented in a round-robin style. Hearing each section step forward, shine individually, and then blend together created a truly special musical experience. With all five vocal parts represented — first soprano, second soprano, alto, tenor, and bass — the choir delivered a full, layered sound filled with harmony, precision, and emotion. These performances were among the most moving moments of the evening.
The production also featured two exceptional soloists who brought their own unique artistry and personality to the stage. Erin Malcolm’s performance was captivating, with a voice and stage presence that immediately connected with the audience. Another unforgettable moment came with male soloist Lee Duke’s incredible rendition of a Louis Armstrong classic. His performance captured the warmth, spirit, and character of the original so convincingly that, for a moment, you could almost imagine Louis Armstrong himself was in the room.
A special highlight was Alicia Cotton, the youngest member of the cast, who brought wonderful energy and enthusiasm to the production. The director made excellent use of her natural ability to bring the music to life through several memorable moments throughout the show. Her solo near the end revealed a promising young performer with a bright future ahead.
The production builds beautifully as the evening unfolds, with the second half bringing especially powerful and memorable moments. What stands out most is the heart behind the performance — the dedication, collaboration, and genuine love of music that shine through every scene.
This is a production filled with exceptional musical talent and moments that stay with you long after the curtain falls.
