The Newport Opera House Association would like to thank everyone who joined us last evening at the historic Newport Opera House for our free screening of the beloved movie musical 1776!
A special thank you to the Newport High School Class of 1971 for generously sponsoring this community event. We are so grateful for your support in helping us bring this award-winning classic to our audience.
It was wonderful to see so many patrons gather to enjoy this unforgettable 1972 film adaptation of the Broadway musical. As a bit of trivia shared with the audience last night, the film featured the entire original Broadway cast—with the exception of just two actors—making it a truly special piece of theatrical history.
This screening was the Newport Opera House Association's tribute to America's upcoming 250th Anniversary, and what a fitting way it was to revisit the story of our nation's founding on the eve of this historic milestone.
If you were with us last night, you also saw the beautiful America 250 banner proudly displayed outside, from the Opera House balcony. Our sincere thanks to the Newport Commemorates America’s 250th Anniversary Committee for loaning us this wonderful banner as we join in recognizing this important national celebration.
❤️ We are also incredibly grateful to those who brought donations for the Newport AAC Food Pantry. Thanks to your generosity, 68 non-perishable food items will be making their way to the pantry in the coming week to help local families in need.
Thank you for spending the evening with us and for helping make this event such a meaningful celebration of history, community, and generosity.
“A man may die, nations may rise and fall, but an idea lives on.” — Benjamin Franklin, 1776
