A look back at our final screening of the summer at Fort Adams of MIGHTY MARY — and what a beautiful night it was! 💙⛵️

We were honored to welcome director Mary Mazzio for a special pre-film conversation, moderated by Addie Morfoot, with sailors Jerry Kirby, Suzy Leech, Dawn Riley, and Geordie Shaver.

Then we watched MIGHTY MARY — a powerful story of the women who challenged 144 years of America’s Cup tradition and changed what was possible for those who followed.

We asked a few of our guests and sailors what the story meant to them. Their words say it all — inspired, moved, and thrilled to be part of this special night!

Thank you for helping us close out an unforgettable summer.❤️🌊

Our Community and Event Partners are such an important part of our Outdoors screenings! We are so proud to work alongside these, and more incredible organizations that are making a difference in our community every day. We love putting a spotlight on their work and helping our audience members take action for causes they care about. Thank you for being part of our summer!

That’s a wrap on Outdoors 2026! 🎬 MIGHTY MARY made for the perfect grand finale to another amazing year of outdoor docs! We sent summer off with a bang and a whole lot of girl power!

It was a spectacular night at Fort Adams overlooking Newport Harbor at sunset and dozens of sailboats cruising by. Our audience was immediately locked in to the journey of the first all-female America’s Cup crew and was on the edge of their seats, beach chairs, and blankets until the credits rolled!

We are immensely grateful to Director Mary Mazzio for helping us bring this film here to the sailing capital of the world, to wonderful the panel of sailors, Jerry Kirby, Suzy Leech, Geordie Shaver, and Dawn Riley, and to Variety’s Addie Morfoot for moderating such a fun and meaningful conversation.

And, of course, we are also grateful to you - our audiences - for enthusiastically showing up week after week and making us a part of your summer tradition! THANK YOU! We can’t wait to see you indoors in September!

Our summer series is called Outdoors for a reason, but we have to admit that our rain pivot to the Casino Theatre for last Thursday’s screening of GIVE ME THE BALL! felt like kismet.

We’re so grateful to our audience for embracing the change and giving Director Elizabeth Wolff a warm and generous welcome to Newport for our pre-film conversation with Bill Bartholomew! Huge thanks also to Lainey Dionne (Official) for kicking off our evening!

We’ll see you all at Fort Adams on Thursday for our final screening of the summer presented by Lila Delman Compass Compass Rhode Island - MIGHTY MARY!

Screening a documentary about Billie Jean King next door to the International Tennis Hall of Fame? It doesn’t get better than that! 🎾

We were so happy to welcome GIVE ME THE BALL! Director Elizabeth Wolff to Newport for our second-to-last screening of the summer! Before the film Elizabeth spoke with Bill Bartholomew and shared what it was like working with Billie as the tennis legend shared some of the most vulnerable parts of her story.

It was so special to see our audience be captivated by Billie’s relentless spirit and applaud her victories both on and off the court!

It’s hard to believe there’s only one Outdoors screening left, but we’re sending off summer in true Newport style. Join us on Thursday at Fort Adams for MIGHTY MARY! ⛵

Sailing into Fort Adams on 8/27: MIGHTY MARY! ⛵Our last 2026 Outdoors summer screening presented by Lila Delman Compass Compass Rhode Island is here, and we couldn’t think of a better finale!

Director Mary Mazzio captures the seismic moment when the first all-female crew entered the fiercely competitive world of the America’s Cup, the legendary sailing competition long considered the exclusive domain of men. Aboard the Mighty Mary, a team of pioneers, world-class sailors, and Olympians set out to do more than compete: they challenged 144 years of tradition and forced the sailing establishment to reckon with its assumptions about who belonged on the water.

GIVE ME THE BALL! lands at Rosecliff on 8/20! 🎾 Our second-to-last summer outdoors screening presented by Lila Delman Compass Compass Rhode Island is sure to be a smash! 💥

Billie Jean King is a global icon whose impact on tennis and equality resonates around the world. But the personal turmoil behind this transformational figure has in many ways remained hidden from view. In GIVE ME THE BALL!, we come to understand the sacrifices King was forced to make behind the scenes, even as she fought high-profile battles for the professionalization of her sport and equal treatment for women. Through a trove of rarely seen archival material and powerfully honest interviews with King, this film explores the depths of agony she endured so that others might follow a less painful path. It is the story of selflessness, struggle, and triumph that shines an unforgettable light on a figure who is widely admired but, until now, never properly understood.
