Images of Rough Point’s Renovation: An art competition and show
Call for Submissions:
The Theme: Scaffolds and Mesh: Rough Point Right Now
Over its 100-plus year history, Rough Point estate has taken a beating from the wind, salt, and sea. To repair and protect the house, the Newport Restoration Foundation started a massive project to fix Rough Point’s roof, flashing, and masonry, and the house is currently covered in a crazy maze of scaffolding, mesh, and other materials. While shocking at first glance, the scaffolding and other construction materials create a striking and unusual image on the Bellevue Avenue landscape. This is an important moment in the house’s history and the history of Bellevue Avenue, and NRF is interested in documenting the scaffolding that enfolds the house while also providing opportunities for Aquidneck Island artists to share their works with the general public.
The Newport Restoration Foundation welcomes artists from Aquidneck Island to come see and record this fascinating juxtaposition of 19th-century architecture and 20th-century construction. Their results will be part of an art contest and show to take place at Rough Point in mid-July 2022.
Competition/Exhibition and Prizes
We call on all Aquidneck Island artists 18 and over to submit works for an art competition and pop-up exhibition.
