Hey Aquidneck Island Community!

CALL TO YOUNG ARTISTS:
looking for two young artists to do a paid internship by working together to design and paint an Egyptian tomb set! Seeking two high school students from Aquidneck Island that have an interest in art and would like to do some murals of Egyptian Gods and Goddesses that they can later add to their portfolio. Candidates must be at least 16 years old and be available June 26th, 27th, and 28th (optional additional days will likely be offered depending on the pace of completion). To apply, please send an email (see below👇🏻) that includes the applicant's name, high school, age, pictures of any completed artwork and a personal short essay or video about when they began their art journey and where they hope it takes them.

The hours will be 10am-5pm each day with a half hour break and freedom to snack throughout the day. Artists will be working on different tasks ranging from painting hieroglyphs to murals to creating stone textures.
Interns will receive a flat rate of $200 for all three days with the following additional perks:
One complimentary meal each day from a choice of local restaurants
A letter of recommendation for a job or University application
High resolution images and video of their work and Having a say in the design!
Free admission to this activity (once we open) for up to 6 people ($180 value)

Newport is filled with incredible art *and* artists, so this week we are handing the Instagram reigns over to the very talented starting THIS TUESDAY 5/24. Kelsey will be showing us her favorite pieces of public art in and around town (open to interpretation) until Sunday.
A bit about Kelsey:
I live in Newport and work as a yacht captain. I received my MFA from Lesley University in 2019. My work takes inspiration from the 19th century panorama and their capabilities to consume the viewer and transport them. I explore our relationship with the sea and the sublime and am fascinated by the juxtaposition between serenity and terror.
So keep your eyes peeled, this is gonna be really fun.

Images of Rough Point’s Renovation: An art competition and show
Call for Submissions:
The Theme: Scaffolds and Mesh: Rough Point Right Now
Over its 100-plus year history, Rough Point estate has taken a beating from the wind, salt, and sea. To repair and protect the house, the Newport Restoration Foundation started a massive project to fix Rough Point’s roof, flashing, and masonry, and the house is currently covered in a crazy maze of scaffolding, mesh, and other materials. While shocking at first glance, the scaffolding and other construction materials create a striking and unusual image on the Bellevue Avenue landscape. This is an important moment in the house’s history and the history of Bellevue Avenue, and NRF is interested in documenting the scaffolding that enfolds the house while also providing opportunities for Aquidneck Island artists to share their works with the general public.
The Newport Restoration Foundation welcomes artists from Aquidneck Island to come see and record this fascinating juxtaposition of 19th-century architecture and 20th-century construction. Their results will be part of an art contest and show to take place at Rough Point in mid-July 2022.
Competition/Exhibition and Prizes
We call on all Aquidneck Island artists 18 and over to submit works for an art competition and pop-up exhibition.
TO ENTER OR LEARN MORE ABOUT THE COMPETITION, PLEASE CONTACT ERIK GREENBERG AT [email protected] NO LATER THAN April 1st, 2022 (Cont in comments)
