Adam Belt’s practice explores the invisible forces that shape perception, time, and the natural world. Drawing from landscape, phenomenology, and contemplative traditions, his works transform light, atmosphere, and duration into meditative visual experiences.

Influenced by religious iconography, meditative ritual, and the vastness of the American Southwest, Belt creates restrained chromatic fields that untold slowly through subtle shifts in color, surface, and spatial rhythm.

In Phase Form (Red Orange Variant), luminous gradients and layered materiality evoke an atmospheric sense of presence, suspension, and quiet transcendence.

On Earth Day, we’re thinking about systems. How they grow, resist, and evolve over time.

Andre Woodward’s “Deviant Slice” began with a cast tree contained within a rigid structure. Years later, it continues to live and change. The tree has started to overtake the cube that surrounds it, expanding as the structure slowly fractures.

What was meant to hold form is being reshaped by it.

A reminder that nature does not stop at the boundaries we create. It adapts, persists, and eventually rewrites them.

Happy Earth Day. Be good to it.

Made in California, where color feels elemental.

In his new series of sculptural work, Ruben Benjamin absorbs the chromatic language of the coast - oceanic blues and the soft blaze of sunset pinks. In Benjamins ongoing Fracture Series, polished marble cubes are chiseled open, revealing radiant fields of color where gesture and light become embedded in stone.

THIS MONTH | RUBEN BENJAMIN

Gallery Sonder is pleased to present ‘After the Dust Settles,’ opening March 20th, 2026 and on view through May 10, 2026. In Ruben Benjamin’s inaugural U.S. exhibition, ‘After the Dust Settles’ presents works shaped by pressure and movement. Layered pigments, compressed air, and industrial materials form dense surfaces where light is absorbed, dispersed, and re-emitted through matter itself.

Working between painting and sculpture, Benjamin builds his compositions through processes that echo erosion and dispersion. His surfaces carry the residue of both natural and mechanical action, balancing control with unpredictability. Light does not sit on the surface; it emerges from within, shifting subtly as the viewer moves through space.

Alongside his hanging works, often described as sculptural paintings, Benjamin introduces a new body of stone pieces, in which he uses a chisel to erode the marble and applies his unique reverence to color and the way it plays with light. Across this latest body of work, Benjamin intensifies the dialogue between color as an additive process and carved form.

He incises the stone with deliberate force, exposing raw strata before building pigment back into its surface. What begins as erosion becomes accumulation. These works extend his investigation into weight, resistance, and time.

Across both bodies of work, perception remains unsettled. Whether mounted on the wall or carved into stone, each piece appears to register a moment following compression, when movement has slowed and material has stabilized. What remains is a concentrated field of surface activity, where accumulated force is preserved within the work’s physical structure.
