A century of swing. Bassist and vocalist Kristin Korb celebrates the 100th birthday of her mentor jazz legend Ray Brown, LIVE from Campus JAX in Newport Beach, California.

🎶 KRISTIN KORB — THE VOCAL SIDE OF RAY BROWN

Ray Brown (October 13, 1926 – July 2, 2002) helped define the sound of modern jazz bass. He performed with Oscar Peterson, Ella Fitzgerald, Dizzy Gillespie, and generations of jazz greats. Tonight we celebrate the music, spirit, and legacy of this towering artist, through the voice and bass of someone who actually studied and recorded with him.

Kristin Korb recorded her debut album, Introducing Kristin Korb with the Ray Brown Trio, in 1996. Her new program, The Vocal Side of Ray Brown, brings selections from his trio songbook, pieces inspired by the lessons he taught her, and original discoveries to life.

TONIGHT’S PERFORMANCE
Thursday, October 15, 2026 · 6:30–8:00 PM Pacific
Campus JAX · 3950 Campus Drive, Newport Beach, California

Dave Murdy is one of Southern California’s most versatile guitarists and a familiar presence across the Campus JAX stage — from straight-ahead jazz to pop-jazz, big-band swing, original songwriting, Tijuana Dogs and the intimate JAX DUOS series. An original member of Kilauea, Dave has also played with a remarkable range of jazz artists and collaborators.

Tonight, Dave joins the deeply musical pocket of Baba Elefante on bass and Tom Dante on drums. Three musicians, a shared language, and the possibility of something that can happen only live.

The BBB Featuring Bernie Dresel brings blistering, hard-swinging big band jazz to Campus JAX.
Sixteen powerhouse Los Angeles musicians. Tight ensemble playing. Fiery solos. A rhythm section with some serious horsepower behind it.
At the center is drummer Bernie Dresel, driving a big band with a decidedly modern edge. The BBB takes the scale and precision of classic big-band jazz and gives it a different engine: rather than the traditional piano chair, the ensemble uses guitar—bringing an added jazz, rock and rockabilly character to the sound. SoundScapes Media
Tonight’s performance draws from the band’s four-album catalog, including Number One Son, an extraordinary all-analog production recorded live to 24-track tape at EastWest Studios in Hollywood and mixed to analog tape at The Village. SoundScapes Media
This is big-band music meant to move air.
