I’ve never fully shared this, but this is my story and the meaning behind my art. The layers in my work are deeply meaningful to me. I’ve been painting for as long as I can remember, falling in love with oil paint when I was just seven. I earned my degree in art, but when it came time to build a career, the fear of the “starving artist” was very real for me. So I chose a path that still let me stay close to creativity and I built a successful career in interior design. In the middle of it all, I’ve been raising my three boys, who have shaped me in ways I can’t even put into words (for the better!)
Years ago, my father suddenly passed away. He was the biggest fan of my art and treasured every piece I made, and as a kid he never wanted me to sell any of my “precious” paintings. My mom has always believed in me too, but my dad held my art like it was something sacred. When he passed, something shifted in me. I knew I had to paint full time professionally and live out my dream.
My collage style and textured layers are made from moments and memories. I begin with raw canvas to capture the feeling and then, layer by layer, I build the base while reflecting on people, places, and fragments of time that shaped me. And the top painted layer represents moving forward.
Because we always move forward.
Even while we hold the memories close.
In the photo you’ll also see my dad’s shoes beside mine next to my work. I keep them in my studio at all times, like a quiet reminder that he’s still with me through every layer and every new beginning. 🤍
Some compositions come out organic and free, others more geometric and structured depending on the collection, but it’s always the same message: we create new layers in life constantly. We carry what was, and we keep becoming.
I’m forever grateful that so many of you connect with my work without even knowing the full story behind it. Thank you for being here…
one layer at a time. ❤️✨
