The Newfield Terrace Community Center mourns the passing of Robert E. Jones, a cherished founding member of the Newfield Terrace Action Organization and a pillar of our community. He lived an extraordinary 98 years, leaving behind a legacy of service, kindness, and dedication.

Robert was not only a founding voice but a working board member until recent, who led by example. Whether he was cutting grass under the summer sun, handling electrical repairs, or lending a steady hand at the food pantry, he gave his time generously and without hesitation. His contributions helped shape the spirit and strength of our center, and his presence will be deeply missed.

Beyond his service, Robert was a devoted father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He brought warmth and humor wherever he went, known for his good laugh and his ability to share a quick story that could brighten anyone’s day. His stories connected generations, and his laughter filled our halls.

We honor Robert E. Jones for the life he lived and the community he helped build. His legacy will continue in the work we do and the people he inspired.

Honoring the Legacy of Two Beloved Community Servants

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of two cherished members of the Newfield Terrace Community Center family, Rudolph & Marlene Aikens. These dedicated individuals gave over 35 years of tireless service to the center and the greater community. Their leadership, compassion, and unwavering commitment helped shape the heart of Newfield Terrace into what it is today.

For decades, they took the lead in organizing programs, mentoring youth, and ensuring the center remained a welcoming and supportive space for all. Their work was never just a job—it was their life’s calling. Through every challenge and every celebration, they were there, always putting the community first.

Their legacy will continue to inspire us for generations to come. We extend our deepest condolences to their families, friends, and all who were touched by their extraordinary lives.

Plans for a community tribute will be shared soon. May they rest in peace, and may we carry forward the spirit they so graciously shared with us all.

Happy New Year from Newfield Terrace Community Center!

As we step into 2025, we’re filled with gratitude for all we accomplished together in 2024 and excitement for what’s ahead. Here at NTCC, our mission has always been to uplift and support every member of our community, and this past year was a shining example of that commitment.

Reflecting on 2024

2024 was a year of incredible growth, meaningful impact, and new beginnings. Some highlights we’re especially proud of include:

Senior Programs: Our senior programs continued to flourish, offering a safe and supportive environment for older adults to connect, learn, and stay active. From wellness workshops to social events, we’ve seen how these programs reduce isolation and enrich the lives of our senior participants.

Youth Programs: Our youth initiatives provided young people with safe spaces to grow, explore, and thrive. From after-school tutoring to creative arts and STEM workshops, we were proud to see so many young minds inspired and engaged.

Youth and Family Engagement: Family fun nights, parenting workshops, and collaborative events strengthened the bonds between families in our community. These events are a reminder of the power of shared experiences in creating lasting memories.

Expanded Food Pantry: Thanks to partnerships with local organizations and the incredible generosity of our community, we expanded our food pantry services to serve more families. We also extended our reach to help provide essential supplies to those experiencing homelessness, ensuring everyone has access to the resources they need.

Breaking Ground on the Basketball Court: One of the most exciting moments of the year was breaking ground on our new basketball court. This project, made possible by county grant support, will provide a place for youth and adults alike to enjoy physical activity and build friendships.

Looking Ahead to 2025

The new year promises even more opportunities to make a difference. We’ll continue programs, strengthen partnerships, and create spaces where everyone feels welcome and supported. Look out for:
