ARTIST SPOTLIGHT! It is with great pleasure that all of us here at Sal's introduce to you the immensely talented Playwright of The Stand or Sal is Dead, Kevin Carey:

Kevin teaches at Salem State University. He’s a writer and a filmmaker. His books include The Beach People (2014), The One Fifteen to Penn Station (2012), and Jesus Was a Homeboy (2016). The Stand or Sal is Dead is his first full length stage play.

About his debut play, Kevin says, “The play is inspired by some restaurant / service jobs I’ve had over the years. I wanted to see what a murder mystery would be like set in that type of close environment. Once Peter Sampieri came on board to direct, I could really see the humor and the heart of these working class heroes grow beyond the words on the page.”

ARTIST SPOTLIGHT! Meet Peter Sampieri, the fearless Director of The Stand or Sal is Dead:

Peter Sampieri has directed over 50 productions including plays, independent films, musicals, and opera at Off-Broadway and Regional/Equity theatres in N.Y.C, Boston, Chicago, and L.A. He has brought more than a dozen world premieres to life by writers Dan LeFranc, Antoinette Nwandu, Joe Roland, Sally Oswald, and Quiara Hudes. His university teaching credits include NYU, Brown, Northwestern, Providence College, and N.E.C. He’s a tenured professor of theatre at Salem State. Proud union member, SDC.

ARTIST SPOTLIGHT! Meet one of the boys of Sal's, PABLO, played by Peter Leonard-Solis:

Peter Leonard-Solis is excited to be back on stage at The Actor’s Studio of Newburyport, this time with new friends! He was last seen as Sidney in Impossible Marriage. To feed the muse, he works construction, landscaping, house painting, and other general labor. Much love to friends and family for all of their support.

Ryan Doyle is a rising sophomore at Salem State University where he is pursuing his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in performance. Previous credits include David Kolowitz (Enter Laughing), Conor (Advance Man: Part One of the Honeycomb Trilogy), Lendall (Almost, Maine), South (True Places), Nathan Detroit (Guys & Dolls). Awards: 2 Excellence in Acting Awards for METG Drama Festival (2016), 3 Excellence in Acting Awards for METG Drama Festival (2017), METG Doug Ingalls Scholarship Honorable Mention (2017), Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival Region 1 Irene Ryan Nominee Semi-Finalist (2018).

ARTIST SPOTLIGHT! Meet one of the boys of Sal's, ED, played by Brandon Beach:

Brandon is excited to join the Actors Studio of Newburyport for the world premier of The Stand or Sal is Dead. Brandon is a senior BA Theatre Studies: Acting major at Emerson College. Professional credits include ArtsEmerson’s Kiss (Ahmed) in the fall of 2017. He also appeared in Who Donut? (Rock) and ID (Lee) during Emerson Stage’s Newfest in the springs of 2018 and 2017 respectively. Brandon would like to thank the cast and crew of The Stand or Sal is Dead for making this production possible. He extends special thanks to his friends and family for their unending support.

ARTIST SPOTLIGHT! Meet M.p. Carver, the Stage Manager of The Stand or Sal is Dead:

M.P. Carver is a first time Stage Manager and very excited to be working on The Stand or Sal is Dead. She is an adjunct professor at Salem State University and teaches and edits poetry privately. She is an editor at YesNo Press, former editor of Soundings East, and she was the co-chair for Writer's World at the 2017 Marblehead Arts Festival. Her own paintings have been on display at the Porter Mill Art Gallery where she maintains a studio. She runs the Small Press Fair at the annual Mass Poetry Festival. Her work has been published in various journals, and her chapbook, Selichimorpha, was published by Incessant Pipe Print Works in 2015.

ARTIST SPOTLIGHT! Meet SAL/VINNY, played by Ed Serino

Ed Serino is returning to the stage after a 5 year absence. Ed started acting in 1979 in a federally funded summer youth program for low income teenagers. He has appeared on stages in and around Boston. Ed’s favorite roles include James the Less/God (Corpus Christi) and Ricky Roma (Glengarry Glen Ross). He has appeared as a featured extra in the films The Game Plan and The Makeover, and can be seen in the upcoming indie release Delano Street. Ed is the proud father of Alexis, and he dedicates his performances to the memory of Vincenzo Pintone.

Casey is a writer, artist, educator, and designer based in the North Shore. Stage management credits include The Drowsy Chaperone and Children of Eden (Marblehead Little Theatre), Cabaret and The Phantom Tollbooth Jr. (Greater Boston Stage Company youngco), Only Human (Scrimgeour Productions), and Letters From War (MLT/North Shore Music Theatre), for which she also served as Co-Producer. Meet "SIMONE/JOHN," played by Macey Jennings:

Macey Jennings is a North Shore-based actress residing in Salem, MA. She is a recent graduate of Salem State University, holding a Bachelor's of Fine Arts in Theatre Performance and a double minor in Creative Writing and Dramatic Literature. Notable performances include Lady Macbeth (Macbeth), Glory/Hope (Almost, Maine), Masha (The Seagull), Lisa Barry (A Small Death in a Big Country), Head Female Clown/Courtesan/Pinch (Comedy of Errors), and Radio broadcaster/multiple character voices (Under Milkwood), and Youngest Anne Bradstreet (From the Author to my Husband). She recently received a Creativity Award from Salem State University for Theatre.
