I know it's been a while, life never slows down here. The 16-year old is getting his Private Pilot training in the Stearman which could be a story all by itself. I called on my Stearman instructor Carter Teeters. He now has two generations of Rutledge Stearman pilots under his belt. That fact is perhaps not a resume builder.

Flew the Air Tractor this weekend in the New York International Airshow, 50,000 folks got to see their first ag plane. I think I may have converted a couple Blue Angels.

Off to Illinois this week for the bulk of summer to work, more to follow when I return in August.

I'm humbled to say this guy is one of my best friends and a great stick.

I've been doing the flying gig for a day or two, but there's still two things that unless I'm at a wedding or funeral, I'll stop what I'm doing and watch until they're out of sight; A radial engine airplane, and a UH-1 Huey cranking.

After watching this I'm pretty certain we've gotten soft in aviation. Not sure if I'm more impressed with the fact that someone conceptualized "Why don't we just suck a plane up into a blimp", or the mechanic who climbed down the rigging to fix the hook. Plus, I've always had a soft spot for Fleet biplanes.

I'm usually up front, but I'll have to admit, it's a pretty good time hanging out the back!

A whirlwind trip from NY to Upland, CA and back in a weekend. In a place where it's still open cockpit weather, got to fly a 4-ship formation in a friend's beautiful 450 Stearman. Also finally checked off the Ryan PT-22 from my list of planes I've always wanted to fly.

What did I think of the PT? It's a 165 HP fighter, the Kinner radial sounds like an old tractor engine, but its a rocket (relatively speaking).

Started the beautiful Saturday by watching the sun rise in the helicopter as we dropped parachutists, then opened the last West Point home football game by launching the cadet parachute team to jump in the game ball and the flag.
Done by noon, hopped in the Decathlon to fly to another nearby grass strip to give some dual instruction to New York's newest Stearman owner in his beautiful machine that arrived out of restoration last week.
If this was the last weekend of good flying weather in 2016, I'm ok with that!
