Women's Club of Newburgh, Inc.
Town of Newburgh Indiana

On Thursday, May 28th at 9:30am, The Women’s Club of Newburgh will be dedicating their newest historical marker west of the Ascension-Aurand Trailhead along Yorkshire Drive, an entry road to the Ideal Pleasure Club. (Use Parking Lot at Ascension-Aurand Trailhead for event)
History: Since 1975, the Women’s Club of Newburgh has celebrated the town’s history by placing green markers in front of significant sites, including homes and businesses. In 2025, Darby Hills became the first neighborhood to be so recognized. This May 28th, the Ideal Pleasure Club west of Newburgh along the Ohio River, will be celebrated with a marker dedication ceremony. Several speakers will explain the history of the Ideal Pleasure Club and why it was chosen for the honor.
Significance of Site; According to the Newburgh Register, in 1921 the “Ideal Pleasure Club of Newburgh” began to take shape with summer homes for prominent Evansville and Newburgh residents. Getting out of the city of Evansville and fishing in a place with a spectacular view were reasons given for the formation of the neighborhood. Some of the “getaways” remain after more than 100 years. Others have been replaced with larger and more modern residences. But steadfast residents cling fiercely to the neighborhood that continues to add flavor to Warrick County’s first town.
