PEP productions is looking for improvisers of ALL experience levels to become Carnival Barkers in our new interactive theater project:
THE CARNIVAL OF CONVENIENT TRUTHS
Part play. Part carnival. Part improvisation. And just a little bit rigged.
The Carnival of Convenient Truths is a darkly comic, politically charged theater experience staged as a working carnival midway. The audience becomes the contestants, playing games that explore debt, housing, education, privilege, media, corporate power, and political influence.
The Barkers run the show.
Each Barker operates a carnival game, plays a larger-than-life character, and interacts directly with real audience members. There is scripted material, but no two performances can ever be the same. You need to listen, react, improvise, provoke, tease, and keep the game moving.
Experienced improviser? Great. Never improvised onstage before? Come talk to us. We are looking for interesting people, strong personalities, quick thinkers, actors, comics, performers, and anyone excited by creating a new kind of live theater.

The Carnival of Convenient Truths is a darkly comic, interactive theater piece staged as a working carnival midway premiering at the Newburgh Fringe Festival October 16,17,18.

Each game becomes a scene exploring a different system that shapes contemporary life—debt, housing, education, privilege, media, corporate power, and political influence.
The audience becomes the contestants. At each booth, audience members play the game and confront or interact directly with its Barker. Their actual wins, losses, and choices determine how the Barker responds, turning the carnival game into a theatrical exchange about who makes the rules, who benefits from them, and why the system always seems to favor the house.
Bold, absurd, and politically charged, The Carnival of Convenient Truths gradually reveals that the carnival isn't broken—it is working exactly as designed. By putting the audience inside the game, the play asks a simple question: if the game is rigged, do we keep playing—or change the rules?

Out of the Box 2: Far From Nirvana a new play by Jack Rushton. The two-week presentation reinforces EHT’s commitment to original theater celebrating new voices, bold ideas, and innovative storytelling. Together, this work explores contemporary social, cultural, and personal issues through comedy, satire, fantasy, and drama. The play offers a unique perspective while reflecting the company’s commitment to producing theater that is entertaining, thought-provoking, and rooted in today’s world. Unlike a traditional theater festival, Out of the Box emphasizes script development. Throughout the summer, playwrights, directors, actors, and designers collaborate to refine each script before it’s fully staged premiere. The result is an exciting evening of fresh theatrical voices and stories that continue to evolve through the creative process.

Performances will take place August 20, 21, and August 27, 28, 29 at The Ellis, 60 Dubois Street, Newburgh, NY. See you there! 😊
