The ‘live’ room is coming together now. I had a chance to test my very beautiful sounding Josephson C617 matched stereo pair omnidirectional microphones with the MKII capsules....on several sources. Needless to say, I’m finally getting the results I desire. The recording is clean, detailed, no distortion, transparent with very little room interaction. This is good because I can utilize UAD reverbs, the Ocean Way plugins or Altiverb impulse responses to get the instruments to sound like they are in any recording space I want them to be in. The acoustic guitars are a Martin 12 string, Taylor six string and a new Cordoba Classical six string guitar. I have a Fender acoustic bass still in dire need of a setup. I may add other world instruments to my collection in time. Speaking of time...I also added the Strymon Timeline, Mobius, Big Sky and the Demonizer tube distortion pedal to the guitar rig. All of this came on the heels of a new Apollo 8 audio interface, dozens of new UAD plugins and an Octo Card to compliment a Quad and Duo already in the computer. A few weeks prior to that we got OB-6 and Prophet 12 desktop modules. Progress has been very steady and I think we can do some great work this year.

I’ve been rethinking this room since I abandoned it as a live room. It occurred to me that I can still make it work.
So, I’ve ordered sound dampening and blackout curtains, a new rug and sound/noise dampening material to put under the rug. I’ve decided that this is going to function as a percussion room. Once I get all of this installed, we’ll experiment with guitar cab micing and some percussion work. Naturally, I’ll be engaging in some high-pass filtering on the mic or preamps until we can figure out the room bass situation. I’m going to post some follow up pictures once some of the grunt work has been done. see u soon! peace!
