Drama With A Twist

Drama With A Twist {LIPS} features monthly exhibitions, as well as pop-up spoken word events, readings, film, theatre and music performances.

Drama With A Twist is an expressive arts and drama therapy collective committed to engaging our community through trauma-informed curriculums that create safe, engaging spaces for learning, healing, and growth. Works are exhibited at the {LIPS} studio and in community centers, museums, site specific locations such as train stations platforms, loading docks, factories, underutilized spaces, store f

ronts, and schools. Artistic programs are based out of Newark, New Jersey and extend to other urban and rural areas.

Our program, Back 2 the Future: An Intergenerational Arts Program, was a Newark Artist Accelerator Fund recipient!

Back 2 the Future is an intergenerational arts program where North Newark students from Roberto Clemente Elementary School and Elliott Street School School, together with older adults living with early to mid-stages of Alzheimer’s disease and dementia, explore theatre, art, music, photography, and film alongside local artists at the North End Branch // Newark Public Library Library in Newark.

The program culminated in a celebration where participants, students, school administration, and participating artists came together to share and honor the work created throughout the program in an exhibition at the North End Library in North Newark.

Our work in the community is needed now more than ever. Thank you to for the Newark Artist Accelerator Fund grant. We are deeply grateful and filled with immense gratitude for receiving this award.

Thank you for this generous grant award 💖🎭🎨🙏🏻

My project, uses the power of expressive arts, connection, and trauma-responsive care to support families experiencing homelessness. While adults take part in meaningful group sessions, children engage in parallel creative arts-based experiences of their own—making space for expression, healing, and resilience for the whole family.

The Newark Artist Accelerator (NAA) is a project grant for Newark-based, multidisciplinary visual artists. Grants are awarded in amounts of $2,500, $5,000, and $7,500. Projects are artist-led and include collaborative ventures, pop-up exhibitions, events, and interventions of an ephemeral nature that are radically accessible to the public.
