5th Sunday Fellowship: Choosing Hope in Times of Chaos

At a time when the world seems to be on fire and everywhere we turn there is cause for despair, it can seem difficult and even simplistic to talk about choosing hope. And yet it may very well be precisely the spiritual practice that we need. This 5th Sunday Fellowship service explores what Joanna Macy calls “active hope” and how our Unitarian universalist congregations are uniquely qualified to engage in this spiritual practice. Indeed, it is a significant core of our spiritual tradition that we can lean into in these chaotic times.

From League of Women Voters of New Castle County - As part of the LWVUS Unite & Rise for Voting Rights initiative in August 2026, LWVDE will host a Voter Empowerment Party on Saturday, August 29. Delawareans, mark your calendar now to join us!

We're planning to have food, speakers, music and games (like bingo and/or group trivia). And if you're unsure about voting in 2026, you'll have a roomful of experts to ask... "Can I vote in the Primary?", "How do I check my registration status?", or "I don't know where to go or what will be on my ballot"... Come hang out with us; we'll help you make a plan to vote!

Share the Plate, August 2026, Healthy Food for Healthy Kids

August 2026’s Share the Plate recipient is Healthy Food for Healthy Kids!
Their mission is to inspire healthier lives by providing youth with joyful school gardening experiences. Its vision is a vegetable garden in every school in Delaware.

The program grows cool-weather, fast-growing crops during the school year and its “seed-to-cafeteria table” program provides students the opportunity to eat and enjoy their harvested vegetables in the lunchroom cafeteria. To date, they serve 68 schools, serving over 28,000 students who cultivate 500+ garden beds across the state. They estimate 12 pounds of produce grown per bed per season, bringing the total yield to over 60,000 pounds of produce harvested - and consumed - by Delaware’s children since 2005! Our annual fresh Produce Drive sponsored by CUUPS will start with the celebration of Lammas First Harvest.

Bring your Fresh produce in bags to the Sunday Service from July 26-August 23.

It will be delivered to the Food Bank of Delaware the following day. Last year we donated 700 pounds of produce!
