SHOUT! - Clem's resident big band led by master saxist and composer Lance Bryant return for their monthly roof raising performance

SHOUT! features some of the finest musicians in the NY/NJ area in a modern big band setting performing hip arrangements of new jazz classics and originals by master arranger and tenor saxophonist Lance Bryant. This full sixteen piece big band performs compositions and arrangements by Lance and occasionally arrangements of his colleagues. Lance has been arranging for other artists and bands for over twenty five years, starting with the Lionel Hampton Orchestra. “Lionel Hampton always encouraged me to keep writing,” Lance says of the iconic Jazz legend. “I found that when commissioned to write for artists or band leaders there was often some level of restrictions or parameters to adhere to.” That was until Lance was commissioned to write a program of arrangements to be performed live by vocalist Carla Cook and the NDR Big Band in Hamburg, Germany in 2002. Given ample freedom to create by Carla, Lance wrote nine arrangements for the program. “I was so pleased with the results, I never forgot that feeling.” In the Spring of 2022 Lance finally decided to start his own band. “For me there’s nothing like that range of power and expression we can achieve with sixteen great musicians. Not to mention the sense of community and family that we enjoy working as a big band.”

Regular Members:

Lance Bryant - conductor, arranger, composer and saxophone

Saxophones: Matt Hong, Zoe Obadia, Craig Rivers, Mike Lee, David Schumacher

Trombones: Juanga Lakunza, Peter Lin, Clarence Banks, James Borowski

Trumpets: Nathan Eklund, Eddie Allen, Ted Chub, Bill Mobley

Rhythm: Oscar Perez, Caylen Bryant, Jerome Jennings

6/3/2026 A Gemini Birthday Bash and Ahmad Dubose-Dawson of Katalyst from LA along with some cool Philly folks will present the Black Art Distrikt. Some thru sand spend a few minutes or a lot of minutes and enjoy the festivities. And the music will be awesome for those who were honored to hear Collective before.

Black Art Distrikt which is a boundary-pushing collective born in Leimert Park during the pandemic, featuring some of Los Angeles’ most dynamic improvisers and modern jazz musicians. Founded by percussionist Ahmad DiBose Dawson of Katalyst, the ensemble blends free jazz, fusion, soulful grooves, and live instrumental experimentation into immersive performances rooted in the Black creative tradition of LA.

Beyond the stage, Black Art Distrikt has helped drive several of Southern California’s vibrant live music platforms, including Jazzin’ Compton, Atwater Jazz Club, Everything Raw, and Sound Suite LA’s Live Music Soirée.

For this special engagement, the group would feature Zacchae'us Paul, the acclaimed multi-instrumentalist, vocalist, and producer signed to Candid Records. Blending Southern hip-hop, gospel, Caribbean rhythms, and jazz improvisation, Zacchae’us is one of the most exciting emerging voices in contemporary Black music. His debut album JAZZ MONEY, executive produced by Terri Lyne Carrington, explores themes of Black spirituality, history, and liberation through a bold, genre-defying lens.

Together, Black Art Distrikt and Zacchae’us Paul would bring a powerful statement in progressive jazz with a sound for today—an adventurous, soulful, and deeply engaging performance perfectly suited for Clement's Place.

A Gemini Birthday Celebration featuring a genre‑bending groove from LA’s Black Art Distrikt, led by LA's Ahmad DiBose Dawson of Katalyst.
