A striking pair of 19th-century Orientalist cold-painted bronze figures, remarkable for their commanding presence, expressive character and extraordinary attention to detail.

Each figure is individually modeled in elaborate traditional dress, enriched with layers of beautifully preserved polychrome decoration—from the intricate textiles and embroidered garments to the smallest details of their accessories. Positioned in animated conversation, the pair possesses a wonderful sense of movement and personality rarely achieved in decorative bronze.

Sculptural, exotic and exceptionally decorative, these magnificent bronzes embody the fascination with the Middle East that captivated European artists and collectors during the 19th century.

A masterpiece of Damascene craftsmanship.

Created in Damascus, Syria, circa 1900, this extraordinary 16½-inch tray reflects the remarkable artistic world of the city at the turn of the 20th century—where Jewish, Islamic and broader Syrian artistic traditions existed side by side.

The exceptionally detailed composition is worked in contrasting metals and surrounded by intricate geometric ornament and Arabic and Hebrew inscriptions. Biblical narratives unfold across the surface, from Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden to scenes from the stories of Joseph and Exodus, culminating in the magnificent spread-winged eagle below.

More than a decorative object, it is a remarkable document of Damascus’s multicultural artistic heritage—uniting sacred narrative, Arabic calligraphy, Hebrew inscription and the centuries-old metalworking traditions for which the city became celebrated.

A monumental statement of French decorative art — this magnificent ormolu, onyx and champlevé enamel clock by Ferdinand Barbedienne, surmounted by an imposing gilt-bronze figure of Queen Marie Leszczynska as Juno, after the celebrated model by Guillaume Coustou.

The extraordinary sculptural composition rises dramatically above a richly ornamented architectural clock base, combining finely chased gilt bronze with luminous onyx and brilliantly colored champlevé enamel. Monumental in scale and unmistakably Barbedienne in its ambition, the work blurs the line between sculpture, horology and the decorative arts, conceived to command a grand interior rather than simply furnish it.

A true centerpiece of 19th-century French luxury and craftsmanship.

The Art of Whimsy, by Buccellati.

A miniature world imagined in silver and stone. A charming colony of exquisitely sculpted mice appears to wander across a spectacular natural mineral formation—an unexpected composition elevated by the unmistakable artistry of Buccellati.

Each figure is brought to life through extraordinarily delicate silverwork, from the intricate texture of the fur to the smallest expressive details. Against the organic beauty of the mineral specimen, the effect is wonderfully surreal: precious, playful, and effortlessly chic.

More than an objet d’art, it is a little piece of fantasy—where nature, humor and the legendary craftsmanship of Buccellati meet.

A spectacular Chinese carved coral figural group, conceived on an impressive scale and intricately sculpted with a gathering of elegant figures enveloped by flowering branches. The composition is exceptionally dynamic, with each figure emerging almost in the round from the natural formation of the coral.

The rich orange-red coral possesses a remarkable presence, beautifully elevated by its finely carved hardwood stand. Both sculptural and architectural, this is the caliber of object that can command an entire room—whether displayed in an important collection or within a sophisticated contemporary interior.

An exceptional collector’s piece.

A Rare “Chevaux de Légende” Jeweled Masterpiece by MELLERIO dits MELLER, Paris

An extraordinary jeweled equestrian objet d’art by MELLERIO dits MELLER, the legendary Parisian maison whose history spans more than four centuries. Renowned for creating exceptional jewels and precious objects for European royalty and discerning collectors, Mellerio represents one of the great traditions of French haute joaillerie.

From the celebrated “Chevaux de Légende” (Legendary Horses) series, this remarkable work is conceived as both sculpture and jewel. The composition brings together an exceptional palette of precious materials: 18-karat gold, gold enamel, silver-gilt, brilliant-cut diamonds, emeralds, lapis lazuli, agate, carved obsidian and rock crystal, all meticulously worked and assembled by Mellerio’s craftsmen. The sculptural horse and polo player are dramatically presented against a substantial rock-crystal plaque and raised upon a polished black obsidian base.

A rare example of Mellerio’s artistry beyond traditional jewelry—where haute joaillerie, hardstone carving and sculpture become a single work of art.

A magnificent and exceptionally detailed pair of large Japanese cloisonné enamel plates, Meiji Period, circa 1885.

Measuring an impressive 15.5 inches in diameter, each plate is brilliantly decorated with a dramatic arrangement of tsuba-form reserves depicting fish, animals, flowers, butterflies and cherry blossoms in richly colored enamels. The striking turquoise centers depict beautifully rendered birds in dynamic naturalistic landscapes—one soaring above a garden, the other diving toward a stream after catching a shrimp.

A superb marriage of Japanese metalwork, enameling and nature-inspired artistry from the height of the Meiji Period.

Isidore-Jules Bonheur (French, 1827–1901)

A rare and exceptionally handsome gilt and patinated bronze Jockey on a Horse, circa 1875.

One of the celebrated animalier sculptors of 19th-century France, Bonheur was renowned for his remarkably naturalistic and finely observed equestrian subjects. Here, the deep patination of the horse is dramatically contrasted by the richly gilded jockey, creating a particularly striking and sophisticated composition.

A superb example of French animalier sculpture and an important statement piece for an equestrian collection, library, or distinguished interior.
