FUERZAfest

FUERZAfest FUERZAfest highlights stage and film work, art exhibitions, workshops and panel discussions that contribute to the gay rights movement.

FUERZAfest is a multidisciplinary Latinx festival that brings diverse communities together to support artistic risk-taking, incite creative collaboration and experimentation, and celebrate the rich heritage of Latine q***r artists and art. In 2016, Hispanic Federation launched FUERZAfest, the first LGBTQ+ Latinx Arts Festival in the Northeast which not only celebrated a vibrant community, but addressed critical issues impacting it. Since then, events have been held in New York City, Connecticut and Orlando to create a space for dialogue and awareness of the systemic barriers and threats faced by the Latinx communities.

Today, Hispanic Federation’s FUERZAFest marched in NYC Pride for the second consecutive year. Thank you to INTAR Theatre for all the coordination and to every artist and collaborator who was part of the Mi Gente troupe.

Our presence is an act of resistance. We stand against hate and reject the labels imposed by a society that seeks to control who we are and who we love. We march with pride, unapologetic, visible, and united, celebrating our identities, our love, and our right to exist authentically.

At FUERZAFest, we remain committed to using the arts to inspire change, amplify our stories, and build a future rooted in equity, dignity, and love.

Last Thursday, we had the opportunity to attend PULSE 10: Baquiné para Los Ángeles, an event inspired by the Afro-Caribbean tradition of Baquiné, which honors loss through music, art, and community.

This beautiful gathering commemorated the lives of the 49 souls lost in the tragic Pulse Nightclub shooting in Orlando on June 12, 2016. Although their lives were taken far too soon, their legacy continues to inspire us to stand for love, inclusion, equality, and a future free from gun violence.

The event served as a powerful reminder of the importance of community, remembrance, and our shared responsibility to keep working toward a safer and more compassionate world.

Thank you, Nancy Rosado and Del Ambiente, for creating such a moving and beautiful celebration of love.

FUERZAfest’s Breaking Bread and Building Bonds Luncheon was a huge success! 💜🍽️🫱🏻‍🫲🏼

Over a delicious meal, artists, community leaders, advocates, partners, and supporters came together to connect, collaborate, and discuss how to build a stronger and safer New York for all. Every conversation revolved around shared experiences, and a commitment to positive change in our communities.

A big thank you to everyone who joined and contributed their ideas, energy, and passion. Together, we are fostering connections, inspiring action, and advancing the vision of a safer, more inclusive New York.

Today, May 17, FUERZAfest recognizes the International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia, and Biphobia, a global day of solidarity and action for LGBTQIA+ communities. It raises awareness of the challenges LGBTQIA+ people face and calls for laws and policies that protect their rights. The date marks the World Health Organization’s 1990 decision to remove homosexuality from its International Classification of Diseases. This year’s theme, “At the heart of democracy,” highlights the importance of equity, justice, and inclusion in building truly democratic societies.
