Kevin Talbot, the drummer for LYFE Band and Show, the group I was part of as a kid, passed away a few days ago.
It’s taken me some time to find the words… not just because it hurts to lose someone I truly considered a friend, but because this one hits deeper. Even though we hadn’t seen each other in years, the moment I heard he was gone, the memories came rushing back.
Kevin was taller than all of us in the band, and when he stood he’d cross his feet like a Christmas tree stand…I never knew how he could stand like that! He could be a little aloof at times… kind of disconnected. But when he connected with those drums!!! Man… it was like something took over. Once Kevin locked into a groove, a beat, you couldn’t pull him off it with a crowbar.
We all, myself, Marvin Burke, Byron Williams, Ricky Fletcher, Rickey Parker, Eric McCray and Kevin shared a chapter of life that was unforgettable, one of those seasons in your life that shapes you forever. All of us grew together during a time that was so important to our musical journey. Those were the foundation-building years… the years that helped form me as a musician and as a person.
My prayers are with his family.
Rest in peace, my brother. 🙏🏾🕊️
