I’ve been dealing with this guy at my job who somehow turned me into his backup employee without ever asking. He dumps his tasks on me, has me running errands like I’m his assistant, and acts like it’s normal. At first I let it slide just to keep things smooth, but it kept happening to the point where I was basically doing two jobs while he just walked around like he owned the place.
So one day he’s busy running around pretending to be important, and I finally decide I’m done playing along. I took a break, went out to the parking area, and saw his car just sitting there. That’s when it clicked for me that if he’s going to keep treating me like that, I’m not going to keep reacting like a normal person either.
I didn’t confront him, didn’t argue, didn’t say anything. I just handled it my way. By the time I walked back in, everything looked normal on my end, but outside was a completely different story waiting for him.
Later on, he goes out and suddenly his whole attitude flips. He’s pacing, calling people, trying to figure out what happened, clearly frustrated and confused, and for once he’s the one stuck dealing with a problem instead of handing it off. He never figured out it was me, and honestly, watching him scramble like that felt like the first time things were actually even.
