Respiro Opera NYC is an intensive training program designed to aid the artistic development between student and young professional. Participants in Respiro Opera’s program will work with the basic stagecrafts and skills required for today’s opera performer. Classes will be offered in breath for the operatic voice, hands on Alexander Technique, Body Mapping, and yoga for singers. Each Respiro parti

cipant will be responsible for not only the word by word translation but he/she will also learn how to frame the scene or aria with regard to the cultural framework of composer and librettist. Respiro’s faculty uphold and honor musical style and tradition from bel canto through contemporary opera. The objective of each faculty member is to raise the participant’s level of confidence in a supportive and honest way. Respiro’s faculty is composed of highly regarded professionals with connections to young artist programs and American opera companies. Respiro Opera NYC will provide each participant with a video of the final performance to validate artistic development. Videos may also be used for outreach purposes for those individuals who cannot attend the public performance.

Last, but certainly not least, we are thrilled to introduce Emerging Artist mezzo-soprano ✨

Mayu Sierra Tayama is a Japanese-American mezzo-soprano from San Jose, CA. She was originally a competitive figure skater who found her passion for music during COVID, and currently resides in NYC, where she just received her Bachelor of Music in Classical Voice at .nyc under the tutelage of Christopheren Nomura. Mayu has portrayed the role of the Witch in Humperdinck’s 'Hansel and Gretel', and will perform as Maddalena in 's production of Verdi’s 'Rigoletto' this July.

Other recent accomplishments include her portrayal of Panatellas in Offenbach’s 'La Périchole' and earning First Place in the 2025 International Academy of Music Concerto Competition. She is beyond thrilled to join Respiro this season!

Next up we're excited to introduce incoming Emerging Artist soprano ✨

Carys Harrison du Boulay (Soprano) is a current sophomore/rising junior studying Classical Voice performance at the and is studying under the direction of Professor Sondra Kelly. She is a member of the Hartt Chorale, POCA (Performers of Color Association) and the Hartt ACDA Chapter (American Choir Directors Association) where she serves as President. Carys was a NYSSMA Conference All State (2022) participant, an ACDA Honor Choir (2022) and Area All State Choir (2023) participant and soloist. She is also a National School Choir Award and Quincy Jones Musicianship Award recipient.

Next up we're excited to introduce incoming Emerging Artist baritone ✨

Kalmen “Bugs” Kelley, baritone, is a sophomore vocal major at , where he studies with William Sharp. He has performed the role of George Jones in Kurt Weill’s 'Street Scene' for the Peabody Opera and has sung the roles of King Melchior and the Page in performances of Menotti’s one-act opera 'Amahl and the Night Visitors' in New York City.

As a student at the Professional Performing Arts High School in New York, Bugs attended the NYSSMA All-State Conference at the Eastman School of Music and was a participant in the Washington National Opera’s summer teen institute. He has traveled to Saint Albans, UK and to Barbados for choir residencies with the Transfiguration Choir and has appeared as finalist in the Schmidt Regional Vocal Competition. Bugs also received the Royal Conservatory’s National Gold Medal in Trombone twice in a row, attended Kinhaven Music School’s Junior and Senior Sessions as a scholarship trombone student, and performed as principal trombone in the ISO Symphony Orchestra.

Next up we're excited to introduce incoming Emerging Artist soprano .randazzo ✨

Celina Randazzo, New York City based lyric soprano, earned her Bachelor’s of Music in Vocal Performance from the at in May 2024. Her recent opera roles include Gretel in Humperdinck’s 'Hänsel und Gretel', Alcina in Händel’s 'Alcina', Flora in Britten’s 'Turn of the Screw', and Madame Goldentrill in Mozart’s 'The Impresario', among others. Celina has performed at renowned
venues including Carnegie Hall, Madison Square Garden, Radio City Music Hall, as well as various locations throughout NYC.

Currently, she works at Grace Lutheran Church in Brooklyn as their soprano cantor, she serves as a board chair for a Baroque revival ensemble called , and she teaches private voice and piano lessons. More information about Ms. Randazzo can be found at celinarandazzo.squarespace.com.

Next up we're excited to introduce incoming Emerging Artist soprano ✨

Madeleine Marsola is a coloratura soprano in her sophomore year of voice performance at . Her original major before switching to music was Environmental Engineering, so this is her third year overall at , which has allowed her to participate in three operas so far. She was a chorus member in Bernstein’s 'Candide' and Bizet’s 'Carmen', and this past winter, she made her operatic debut as Zerlina in Mozart’s 'Don Giovanni'. In her freshman year, she won first place in the NATS freshman treble category.

Two fun facts about Madeleine are that she was a cello player for many years before discovering she could sing, and she has Gustav Mahler’s signature tattooed on her left ankle.

Huxley Robb is a lyric baritone currently studying in the graduate program of .nyc under the study of . So far at MSM he has been in the ensemble of 'Carmen' and 'L'Elisir d'Amore' in which he played the illustrious Mr. Potato Head. Having done Alexander Technique alongside lots of dance in his undergraduate studies at , he's super excited for the body-focused work Respiro has to offer.

Next up we're excited to introduce incoming Emerging Artist soprano ✨

Sadie Mae Margolis, soprano, is currently pursuing her Master of Music in Vocal Arts at .nyc, studying with . This past spring, she was featured in MSM’s New American Songbook Cabaret and is excited to join Respiro Opera this summer.

Originally from Hartford, Connecticut, Sadie graduated summa cm laude from in 2025 with a B.A. in Vocal Performance and minors in Dance and Communications. Her experience spans regional theater, cabaret, and opera, with credits including 'Fiddler on the Roof', 'Mystic Pizza', and 'Oklahoma!' at the and , and performances in Italy with di Firenze, including 'La Traviata' under .manzoni. She returns to this summer as a Teaching Artist, choreographing The Addams Family: Younger @ Part.

It's about time we started introducing you to each of our incoming Emerging Artists! Up first: ✨

Hannah Bogard is an emerging coloratura soprano based in Brooklyn, New York, recognized for her versatility across opera, contemporary works, oratorio, and musical theater. She has performed roles including Mercurio and Satirino in Cavalli’s 'La Calisto', Oscar in 'Un ballo in maschera', and Tisbe in 'La Cenerentola' with 's New York Opera Conservatory. Her work in contemporary opera includes Zelda ‘18 in Evan Mack’s 'The Ghosts of Gatsby' and the Female Narrator in the American premiere of Ronald Beckett’s 'Ruth'. She has also appeared as soprano soloist in a Pentecost cantata by Donovan Klotzbeacher alongside members of the .

An active choral artist and recitalist, Bogard is the 2025–2026 Choral Scholar at St. Peter’s Church in New York City and regularly performs as a cantor and chorister throughout the region. She is currently developing a recital series exploring collaboration between voice and violin. Bogard holds degrees in voice performance from and and has pursued additional training in Graz, Austria, and Lucca, Italy.
