To all owners of vehicles in the U.S.A.
As a retired Mechanic I must voice out an injustice to the American People that is being pushed by all major Automakers and we all need to stop it.
In the last year or so before I retired (I did it in March 2026), I ran into the difficulty of getting information or repair procedures on different vehicles mainly American brands. It bothered me but with retirement nearing I brushed off the annoyance and even took my own vehicle to a local dealer for a quick recall and diagnosis. Having a good relationship at the dealer (Iām not saying any names) I got the needed diagnosis and got to fix it myself.
Now the CEOs want to monopolize the process of getting the cars repaired by making it a "Dealer only serviceable vehicle", making it impossible for the small shops and gear-heads like me to work on any vehicle. EVEN OUR OWN!!
Now: like I always suggest: Donāt believe me, research it yourselves.
The main reason why we all donāt like going to the Dealers is because they take freaking long times to take care of our vehicles and it is mostly going to be expensive!
I know most Americans agree with me on this.
To add insult to the fact, the reason nowadays the Dealers takes longer than ever to get vehicles repaired is because of their own lack of skilled workers. At least thatās what the CEO of Ford said. He claim that Ford has a number of empty shops bays in the thousands!
But donāt believe me research it yourselves.
None of us mechanics want to work for them anymore because of their abusive practice.
You see, as mechanics we will find on our labor to repair a car how much time we can charge, but the dealer will cut the time as much as they want (and blame it on the shopās management). Their mechanics sometimes donāt get paid but about 50% of the labor on some jobs that are manufacturers warranties!
Mechanics have to buy their own tools! Not enough pay makes it more difficult to buy the right tools, and making the cars higher tech creates a bigger need for more specialized and expensive tools.
They (the mechanics) even have to be trained to go up the ladder in any organization, and some Dealers are too slow to do this, in order to keep the bays occupied with lower level techs. Therefore the other lack of higher level techs.
But donāt believe me, research it yourselves.
If the vehicles manufacturers get away with this, we all will be forced to take our vehicles to the dealers only for any service. ANY!! Not only that but nobody will be able to work on their own vehicles!
Small shops and independent mechanics will start to be a disappearing trade, and the savings they provide will start filling the pockets of the Dealerships industry (which we all know are deep). I know some of those shops donāt deserve our money, but a great majority do and serve a purpose. Freedom of choice.
Talk among yourselves about this issue. Write to you Congressman. Write to your representative in The House of Representatives.
Do it before any politician sides with them! And by any politician I meant even the President. They sat with him already to discuss the issue. I see a lot of Dollar signs flying around the political table.
PLEASE EVERYONE⦠HELP US KEEP OUR FREEDOM OF CHOICE!!
