Georges Bergès Gallery

Georges Bergès Gallery Georges Bergès Gallery is a Boutique Fine Arts Gallery showcasing the best in Modern Art from around the world. Also featuring a Lounge and Artist Salon.

Georges Berges Gallery represents emerging and established artists from around the world. We are a person-centered gallery seeking to connect collectors to some of the most transformative artists from around the globe. Many of our artists’ works have been vetted and added to the art collections of major museums, including MoMA, Tate, Met, and Guggenheim, among others. We pride ourselves in attract

ing both new and sophisticated collectors. Georges Berges personally travels the world visiting artist’s studios and collectors’ homes. Through his travels and work he grows perspective about the global art world and brings to light artists that are gaining recognition within their region, but that have not yet broken through the global stage. By working directly with national and international museums, collectors, and artists, Georges brings into prominence artworks that are significantly relevant to the art industry and the broader global community.

It was not too long ago we spoke and I hope it always feels that way. My hope is that she finds that clearing in the forest — the place where love, peace, and self-acceptance no longer require courage to reach. What we struggle toward in this life waits for us, open-handed, in the next.

Mark Tennant
Untitled
Oil on canvas | 50 × 40 in (127 × 101.6 cm)

There’s something raw and unresolved about this painting — and that’s exactly the point. Mark Tennant doesn’t clean up the night. He paints it mid-sentence, mid-gesture, mid-drink. Two figures caught in that particular hour when the conversation has gone somewhere it can’t come back from. The woman holds her gaze forward with a directness that unsettles. The man beside her is somewhere else entirely.

Tennant works in a lineage that runs through Manet’s barrooms and Sickert’s interiors — but the urgency is contemporary. The teal ground, barely restrained by the figures, gives the whole thing the feeling of something surfacing. Oil and instinct.

Steve Simmons is, as critic Donald Kuspit writes, “brilliantly complex — not to say self-contradictory, as only a creative genius can be.” A master of both geometrical abstraction and naturalistic realism living in the same body of work. His animals carry what Kuspit describes as “confrontational clarity” — the incisive eloquence of the Renaissance masters, essentializing what they represent until it achieves uncanny presence. Not taxidermy. Not documentation. Transcendence.

In Motion opens Thursday, June 4th, 6–8 PM.

Untitled (2026-7) | Oil on wood | 30 x 30 in (76.2 x 76.2 cm)

Some women don’t ask permission. They simply are.

Carson captures that — effortlessly, completely — in every deliberate stroke.

Ben Birillo, Untitled, n.d. Oil on canvas.

Birillo was one of the most singular American painters of his generation — a figure who moved fluidly between the New York avant-garde and the broader cultural world of the mid-20th century. His first solo exhibition was held at the Leo Castelli Gallery, New York. His last was at Georges Bergès Gallery.

His work is held in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art, New York, and in the private collections of Andy Warhol, Leo Castelli, Walter P. Chrysler, and Paul Simon.

His paintings carry the weight of a life fully lived — observed, intimate, and uncompromising.
