The Red String Ensemble is an collective based in New York committed dually to new theatre work and to nurturing the physical, intellectual and spiritual needs of its members. Our mission is to create a theatre of Now. It is our opinion that the most satisfying performances to watch are those in which the performers are actively pursuing personal objectives. We wish to hone in on the interior and exterior lives of our members as to create theatre that is not only relevant, but acutely satisfies the truest desires and yearnings of its performers. There is a difference between performance that is self-seeking and performance that is self-sharing. We believe that together we will find a theatre that serves its performers as profoundly as it serves its viewers. We are fully prepared to be called idealistic in this pursuit. What others will perceive as naiveté will be the ensemble's greatest asset: its steadfast commitment to constantly challenging and nurturing its artists. We believe that a developed creative habit is not only a necessary skill for the professional artist, but a beautiful way to procure a spiritual take on life. Our work is primarily divided into training sessions and performance work. We will have a workshop each month. The workshops will be used to set intention for the month. We will train in several established methodoliges as well as explore new ways of working. While the workshops will mostly consist of training for training's sake, they may also be used to explore themes for our productions. Anybody is welcome at any workshop at any time. The workshops will be our primary recruiting ground for our productions. We will mount a production for each season of the year. We will focus on new play development and devised work. Our work is structured around the calendar year as to challenge our members to recommit to their own creative initiatives on a monthly basis. This framework will give us the ability to track how we change, grow or shrink as individuals and as an ensemble. Our February workshop "Emergence" will be at Juilliard on 2/2. Our Winter production "Fallaway" will premier at the Alchemical Studios on 2/23.
