Have you been meaning to pick up a new hobby, craft, or art practice? Stop by Scandinavia House this fall and enjoy our slate of new workshops! 🎨

Kicking off our fall season, we have New York artist Charity Baker leading our Drawing From Art series, a hands-on, in-person drawing course pairing brief informal lectures on celebrated Nordic artists with guided transcription and drawing exercises! The series is broken up into five classes running every Monday at 5:30 PM through October 19.

Next, Scandinavia House's very own knitter in residence Hilary Snell guides crafters through the process of making their own small, knitted bowls! The four-part class will take place every Thursday from 5:30-7:30 PM through October 8.

Starting October 27, Inna Iadne's Northern Patterns series returns, where participants can explore Northern ornamental traditions through beadweaving, translating symbolic patterns and storytelling elements into contemporary wearable art! Classes run every Tuesday at 5:30 PM through November 17.

Finally, Scandinavia House favorite Margrethe Aanestad leads a brand-new set of printmaking workshops beginning on November 5! Covering linocut, botanical relief, and potato printing, participants will explore and experiment with a range of printmaking practices.

On September 14th, learn about Swedish art in this hands-on, in-person drawing course pairing brief informal lectures on celebrated Nordic artists with guided transcription and drawing exercises. Join us tomorrow at 7:30 PM for a solo concert by violinist and two-time ASF Fellow Jennifer Gersten! At Victor Borge Hall, Jennifer will deliver an imaginative program of six solo violin works by experimental Scandinavia-based composers, three of which will be presented for the first time in the United States. These works push the violin to its dynamic and timbral extremes, traversing strange territories of far-flung birds, fragmented mutterings, and butterfly wingflaps. The program will conclude with a world premiere of a new work by Gersten and the Norwegian composer and double bassist Inga Margrete Aas.

Scandinavia House, in partnership with New York Textile Month, is pleased to present the third iteration of NORDIC TEXTILE TAKEOVER, an exhibition, workshop series, and symposium highlighting contemporary Nordic Textiles, coinciding with NY Textile Month in New York City.

Tonight, see the tender coming-of-age story WEIGHTLESS as we continue our New Nordic Cinema series! Emilie Thalund’s debut feature shines a light on self-acceptance, friendship, desire and growing up.

Fifteen-year-old Lea is spending her summer at a health camp tucked between the forest and the sea. Her new roommate, Sasha, is everything Lea wishes she could be: bold, magnetic, and unafraid to take up space in the world. While Sasha flirts with the local boys, Lea’s gaze is fixed on Rune, the camp’s charming instructor. When Rune reciprocates her attention, something awakens within Lea; an unfamiliar yet thrilling desire.

Winner of the New Directors Competition at the San Sebastián Film Festival 2025 and the FIPRESCI Prize at this year’s Göteborg Film Festival, WEIGHTLESS has already enjoyed major festival success.
