Our Parks Permit is APPROVED! Saturday Oct. 23rd, at 5pm in Travers Park, we’ll be bringing songs and stories from the neighborhood in both English and Spanish— all about creatures! Mythic beasts! Lore from our homelands! And local critters brought to life through music! Bring a blanket or a chair and come enjoy a magical concert all about creatures in Jackson Heights!

With this funding we will be able to create and perform the show we’ve been gathering material for, all about creatures in Jackson Heights! Including bringing on new local collaborators! UPDATE! We've embarked on a cryptids inspired project in Jackson Heights, Queens, interviewing our neighbors there about their relationship to hidden and mysterious creatures-- including investigations into the history and significance of griffins to the neighb, a recent explosion of rats, and a location known only as "Pigeon Paradise" -- so far no reported sightings of Bigfoot in Queens :P but we're hearing lots of beautiful tales of legendary beasts from Jackson Heights residents who come from all over the globe! By some estimates, the neighborhood is about 60% immigrants! We're going to endeavor to post more updates here about our process-- which will culminate in some version of a documentary-concert in Travers Park, in collaboration with other local artists!

Come see American Cryptids NYC at Joe's Pub on 2/25! We've been embedded in the downtown theatre community, interviewing artists about their experiences with Cryptids in NYC and across the country. Come see us present in a show in collaboration with those community-members that tells their incredible stories, charts our process of discovery, and pulls back the veil on the unknown so it can do a song and dance!

Here's a doubter writing about the origins of the Jersey Devil story. This is his byline on the page: "Brian Regal teaches the history of science at Kean University, New Jersey. His latest book is Searching for Sasquatch: Crackpots, Eggheads and Cryptozoology (Palgrave, 2011)."

The story of the Jersey Devil has become layered with myths and variations, obscuring the original events that gave rise to it. Not surprising considering the story comes from colonial-era political intrigue, Quaker religious infighting, and a future Founding Father.
