Barefoot Shakespeare Company strives to make the works of William Shakespeare accessible to everyone

Barefoot Shakespeare Company strives to make the works of William Shakespeare accessible to everyone, with an eye towards modernization to reflect the world we currently live in, and our recent past to examine how we got here. We continue to try and educate both ourselves and our audiences on the histories and struggles of topics such as race, gender equality, politics, and self expression with the Bard’s works as our baseline. We value our relationships with our audiences, and encourage them to participate in our productions, blurring the lines between spectator and participant. Education is another pillar of our ethos, with ‘ready-to-go’ productions and workshops available to any and all who want to explore with us.

Thank you to everyone who came to see Unrehearsed: A Midsummer Night's Dream in partnership with FRIGID New York Theater's Shakespunk Little Shakespeare Festival (extra credit if you can say that 3 times fast!)

We had so much fun seeing familiar faces and meeting new ones! This truly is an endeavor of LOVE and it couldn't happen without the support of incredible people like you!

As part of our partnership, Frigid let us take over their social media for a day, so we made and shared a handful of fun videos surrounding the preparation and technical aspects of getting Unrehearsed up and running, both from the perspective of the actors AND the crew.

As is often the case when making a bunch of content, we have OUTTAKES! Enjoy this video of some of the mistakes, funny moments, and shots that just didn't fit into our videos.

And make sure you're following us on all our socials! That's the best way to ensure you're up-to-date on all of our future projects in and elsewhere!!

See you next time!

One final cast. One final attempt to get through A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Will tonight be the night we make it to the end?

If we shadows have offended…we probably have. We have not rehearsed. We are not sorry. Come watch.

Jump for joy! One more day until eleven actors walk out on a stage together for the very first time and attempt A Midsummer Night’s Dream with zero rehearsals, zero coordination, and absolutely no idea what the other person is going to do.

There is a referee. There is a scoreboard. There is a countdown clock. There is betting.

This is ShakesPUNK and it opens TOMORROW NIGHT.

Shakespeare is better with your best friend. Especially when that friend is on a leash. 🩷

Bring your bestie to UNREHEARSED! A Midsummer Night’s Dream and let them decide which actor to bet against.

This is what it looks like when something goes gloriously wrong on stage during UNREHEARSED. 😂

Swipe to see what happens when actors have never shared a stage before. 👉

1: The chaos begins
2: Teams are chosen
3: The audience gets involved
4: Even the actors need a moment
5: And somehow it all comes together

This is UNREHEARSED! Shakespeare has never looked like this. We promise. No enchanted sleep here. Stay wide awake for this one.

Three nights only. Aug 6, 7 and 11 @ Under St. Marks

Yes, that is a scoreboard. Yes, those are foul counts. Yes, this is Shakespeare.

UNREHEARSED! is one part live theatre, one part spectator sport. Referees throw flags on missed lines. Mini challenges get hurled at actors mid-scene. The audience places bets on who will mess up the most. A countdown clock tracks every second.

Will we make it to the end? That is entirely unclear.
