“How about we make a virtual choir performance of one of the songs from the show?” 😅

This was the innocent little sentence that sparked it all and the truth is... we had absolutely NO idea what we were getting ourselves into!

70 performers from across the globe responded to our call for video submissions, sharing their talents and whole hearts with us during the most isolating early stages of the lockdown.

A few... ok more like several months later we’re thrilled to finally share this incredible collaboration with you, and honestly seeing all these singing faces and watching the musicians do their musician-y thing has made it ALL more than worth it! 💕

In April of this year, our show GROW was slated to have its world premiere at the Grand Theatre. Well, I think we all know how that went down… it got postponed. But you know what is not postponed? Music and joy and harmony and sharing a smile with a friend or a stranger in a little box on a video.

To say we're grateful is an understatement. Working on this has brought a lot of joy into our lives, and we hope that it brings a little to all of you as well! Thank you to everyone who helped bring this labour of love to fruition, it means everything to us!!

And shout out to our incomparable music supervisor Wayne Gwillim for producing & orchestrating this song. How he managed to put everyone’s audio together so incredibly well blows our minds - Wayne you music wizard, you!

We want to thank Playwrights Guild of Canada and the jury for nominating Grow for the Musical Award at the 2020 Tom Hendry awards. What an honour it is to be nominated alongside these incredible artists 🙌 Thanks so much to everyone who’s been involved with the show so far, and a special thanks to the The Toronto Fringe Next Stage Festival, at Sheridan and Goodspeed Musicals for the opportunities you gave us to workshop and present the show. We were supposed to have opened Grow at the Grand Theatre this past spring with an excellent cast, crew & creative team 💚 but Covid had other plans for the entire industry, so it had to be postponed. So it’s extra special to get this good news now! “You never know what’s going to grow” 🎵

Today the cast and creative team of GROW was scheduled to begin rehearsals for the premiere production at the Grand Theatre. Although the production and rehearsals have been postponed due to the current health crisis, the writers want to acknowledge and honour the incredible artists who had been preparing for this show, and the loyal audiences who were ready to support new Canadian work. As a token of gratitude, our composer Colleen Dauncey used her self-isolation to record a solo version of “The One I Choose”, one of the newest songs from the show. It's a song about the impact we can have on each other’s lives, and finding a sense of belonging and hope together in tough times. Stay safe, stay healthy and stay tuned... because you never know what’s going to Grow!

Here’s a little peek into the process as we gear up for our Goodspeed Musicals Festival presentation of GROW!! 🌱🙏 Feeling very lucky to be working with this wonderful group of performers.
