Sunday night Jenny from IMPULSE Magazine texted me to ask if I'd heard that Francesco had passed. And then, the messsages kept coming in.

His passing is such a devastating loss. Francesco was not only, through his gallery Lubov, running a damn strong program but also a friendly, warm, and positive friend, colleague, and person to those in his orbit.

He gave a lot to us.

“In his works, explores the space between painting and sculpture, creating pieces that exist between the two. Tangled / Untangled, curated by Dr.Sozita Goudouna, brings together Van Arkel’s silicone pieces and a recent body of bronze sculptures, the result of an idea he has pursued for many years. Some sculptures are cast directly from his silicone originals, while others began as unique wax works created here in Andes. By translating his colorful silicone works into bronzes and losing the colors, the expression changes, and the time to which they belong changes, moving back from the contemporary approach to painting to a feeling of ancient mystic sculpture.” On view at The Corner Gallery in Andes, NY through Sept 30!

From documenting fictional U.S. presidents to the internet, “other” categories, double vision, train stations, and an upcoming exhibition at Hong Kong Palace Museum to “all hell breaking loose” as the chocolate mousse made its entrance this conversation took place over dinner in Bed-Stuy between two friends.

An incredible architect-artist and an equally masterful curator, or two pretty darn good writers—by extension impressive thinkers—Rain Chan and Sofia Thiệu D’Amico.

They are integral to New York’s niche set of creative avant-garde Asian diaspora, when they feel like ticking that box.

Happy Birthday USA 🇺🇲 In three exhibitions explore what lies beneath the countries open roads and landscape: people, places, joy, and resilience.

presents "The Great American Roadtrip," the perspectives of non-US artists' at The Watergate Hotel and National Gallery, Clifford Ross and Sky Hopinka approach the poetics of nature.

Extending Hopinka's inquiry into what it means to be Native American in the United States, video "Kicking the Clouds" centers a daughter narrating her mothers life. Photos of clouds etched with poems create links between lived experience and the natural environment.

"How can I make the digital perform as art?," Ross who has worked with waves for over three decades asks. Merging abstract and painterly with coding his monumental work pushes the boundaries of Maya's animation software using millions of particles to render force and movement.

Awe-struck and entangled are fitting themes for a museum that boasts artistic renderings of idealized and real landscapes through time, while the stars and stripes are perfect for the U.S. capital.

Explicit, implicit, or insane? The story of painter 's doll of his ex-lover composer has it all, and more.

Even after Kokoschka decapitated the doll, saying that it had 'cured him,' he painted self-portraits of himself with it and decades later wrote to Mahler that they would be together again.

Anastasia Loupoukhine takes a closer look at the doll on view at Leopold Museum in Vienna, exploring if his painting can or should be seperated from his madness.
