In Memory of Douglas McGrath
All of us at the Vineyard were so saddened to hear of the sudden passing of Douglas McGrath.
We had the honor of producing Doug's brilliant play CHECKERS in 2012, in a production directed by Terry Kinney and featuring Kathryn Erbe and Anthony LaPaglia.
Doug was an extraordinary artist - both a deeply gifted writer and a remarkable human being. His kindness and friendship through the years meant so very much to us. He was such a rare soul - so decent, so warm, and such a generous creative spirit. We will miss his wry wit, his perceptiveness and his great humanity. Our deepest condolences to his family and to all those who loved him.

We’re thrilled to invite you to our , including the WORLD PREMIERES of SANDRA by David Cale, THIS LAND WAS MADE by Tori Sampson, and an exciting new musical — soon to be announced!
In this new one-woman thriller from David Cale (HARRY CLARKE, 2018 Lucille Lortel Award for Outstanding Solo Show), Sandra seeks to get to the bottom of the mysterious disappearance of her closest friend, a young pianist and composer, who went on a trip to Mexico and never returned. Her search for clues leads her into both a highly charged love affair, and increasingly dangerous territory. Featuring an original piano score by Matthew Dean Marsh, direction by Obie Award-winning director Leigh Silverman, SANDRA asks how far would you go for love? Marjan Neshat (SELLING KABUL and ENGLISH) stars in the titular role.
Liberation. Peace. Love. Self-Defense. Oakland in 1967 is a powder keg of social activism ready to boil over into radical action. For the patrons of Miss Trish’s bar, it’s all just talking points — until the explosive and seductive force of the revolution walks through the door. History and imagination collide with vibrant humor and echo into our present moment in this stirring new play from Tori Sampson (NYT Critic’s Pick IF PRETTY HURTS, UGLY MUST BE A MUHF**KA) and directed by LPTW Lucille Lortel Award winner Taylor Reynolds (MAN CAVE, TAMBO AND BONES).
Happy birthday to the great James Baldwin, who would have been 98 today! We were so grateful to have his and Nikki Giovanni's brilliant and inspiring words grace our stage in LESSONS IN SURVIVAL: 1971.
What is your favorite quote?
Last week, LESSONS IN SURVIVAL: 1971 concluded its run, and we are so proud to have brought this important and "stingingly relevant" (Charles Isherwood, The Wall Street Journal) work to our stage.
Thank you to the incredible cast, crew, creative team, and to everyone who joined the conversation.
