For a young person, seeing their culture reflected on museum walls can be powerful.

Each year, El Museo welcomes thousands of students to discover Latine and Latin American art and culture — often encountering artists, histories, and stories that reflect their own backgrounds and experiences.

Through our education programs, we invite young people to connect with art in ways that feel meaningful and familiar. From guided visits and school partnerships to bilingual programs and hands-on artmaking, we create space for students to explore their identities, learn about their communities, and see their experiences represented in the museum.

Hear from Teaching Artist, Julia about what it means to support and inspire the next generation of museumgoers.

We are saddened to learn about the passing of Rafael Ferrer (1933–2026), a groundbreaking artist whose singular and influential practice challenged boundaries across painting, sculpture, collage, drawing, photography, installation, and mixed media.

In 2010, we had the honor of presenting 'Retro/Active: The Work of Rafael Ferrer,' the first solo museum exhibition to examine the breadth and depth of Ferrer's production over the last five decades. Curated by Deborah Cullen, the retrospective brought together approximately 100 works spanning his practice and highlighted the continuities, transformations, and enduring questions that animated his work.

We remember Ferrer for his extraordinary creativity and lasting contributions to contemporary art. We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, loved ones, and admirers of his art and legacy.

Hooray for the arrival of fall! 🍂

Though it's a scene of a summer festival, this print by “Painter of the People” Rafael Tufiño always gives fall vibes to us. Maybe it's the vibrant colors, or the leaves just starting to change above. Either way, let's celebrate the rhythm of the seasons together — welcome autumn!

¡Viva la llegada del otoño! 🍂

This Hispanic Heritage Month, and year-round, we celebrate the stories, creativity, and cultural traditions that shape our communities.

At El Museo, education is at the heart of our mission. Through K–12 guided visits, school partnerships, teacher workshops, bilingual public programs, artist talks, neighborhood tours, and hands-on art-making, we create opportunities for young people to see their cultures, histories, and lived experiences reflected in art — and to discover new perspectives along the way.

Hear from Eliezer Barrios, one of El Museo’s educators, about what it means to welcome and inspire the next generation into El Museo.
