The LaGuardia Performing Arts Center (LPAC), at LaGuardia Community College/CUNY, is committed to presenting culturally and ethnically diverse programming of the highest quality for the College community, the residents of Queens and the tri-state area. With technical features that rival those of many theaters in Manhattan, and a location, which makes it easily accessible from Midtown, LPAC-the lar

gest theater of its kind in Western Queens-has quickly found its place within the city’s rich array of cultural resources. LPAC has a rich history of providing opportunities for children and families to gain a theater experience and build a tradition of art appreciation that will flourish for years to come. LPAC presents a Jazz Jam Series; a Weekend Family Series of theatre, dance and music; the Schooltime Series; and the Lunchtime and Teatime Series of concerts in addition to numerous special events scheduled throughout the year. LPAC also serves the community by offering its facilities for rental to the public. The Mainstage Theatre was designed as a proscenium theater with a level of finish appropriate for formal, public presentations of the performing arts. The Little Theatre features a raised, thrust stage surrounded on three sides by 226 seats. Both theatres are served by a lobby, and box office facilities. About the film:
Close Encounters of the 34th Avenue Kind: The Story of NYC’s Best Open Street tells the story of how a Queens neighborhood transformed a public street into a vital community space.

Created during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, the 34th Avenue Open Street in Jackson Heights and Corona quickly became more than a temporary response to crisis. In one of the hardest-hit communities in New York City, it offered residents a safe place to walk, bike, gather, breathe, and reconnect. As the city emerged from the pandemic, neighbors recognized that this new public space had become essential, especially in a district with limited access to parks and open space.

Introducing the “Summer of Fun” series - a vibrant lineup of free, community-centered events taking place from May through July on the LaGuardia Community Greenway, and across venues throughout Queens.

The series will bring together students, neighbors, and visitors for an exciting season of cultural celebrations, live performances, music, art, and shared experiences. Other highlights include a dynamic Pride celebration in June, participation in the citywide Make Music New York festival, outdoor performances with Manhattan Opera Repertory Ensemble (MORE Opera), and a large-scale public screening of the World Cup Final.

The “Summer of Fun” series is presented in collaboration with LPAC, Casa de las Américas, CREAR Futuros, and other community partners.
