Join us for immersive training in American Mime technique and procedures through our year-round, scholarship-based training program. We are seeking dedicated mimes, dancers, actors, and physical theatre artists interested in developing the skills needed for professional performance, teaching, and outreach.

Program Commitment:
A minimum 4-month commitment is required.

Training Schedule:
Wednesdays: 2:30โ€“5:00 PM
Thursdays: 2:30โ€“5:00 PM
Saturdays: 12:30โ€“3:00 PM

American Mime is a Medium for silent actors who play symbolic activities in characterization and express the desires of their characters honestly through a kind of motivated movement we call form โ€œacting in formโ€, that is both telling and beautiful. Register now for American Mime Theatre's ALL NEW summer intensive this July! Our summer intensive is a deep dive into the form, procedures, elements, and endless expressive potential of the American Mime Medium.

Student's will devise and develop new, original works of American Mime under the guidance of Artistic Director Janet Carafa and the AMT Performance Company.

New works will be presented in a public showcase immediately following class on 7/18.

$55 per class or $155 for a 3 class bundle!

What is American Mime?

American Mime is a Medium for Silent Actors who play symbolic activities in characterization to express the deepest feelings and desires of the character through motivated movement we call "acting in form" that is both beautiful and telling.

Each gesture and movement must emerge from within the performer's truest inner self, while maintaining direct contact with other performers through dynamic interdependence.

"Freedom" is a class procedure within the American Mime Medium that asks performers to establish "a base"--an emotional, empathetic place of mutual understanding that begins from a willing display of deep vulnerability.

To establish a base with our visiting Board Vice President Bob Simpson, AMT Company Members practiced a device Bob himself used during the Freedom procedure as a student under our founder Paul J. Curtis--spontaneous singing! Talk about vulnerability for a mime!
