I chose cicadas because of their unique metamorphosis. Periodical cicadas can take 13-17 years to mature and gain their wings. That’s almost as long as a child becoming an adult.
Transforming into their adult selves, gaining their wings and taking flight. Nature has so much to teach us.

The cicada is replete with symbolism: reoccurring themes of rebirth, transformation, immortality and spiritual ecstasy. Since ancient times in the Chinese culture, the cicada has been seen as a symbol of resurrection as an association to its fascinating lifecycle. In Japanese culture, cicadas are associated with summer time and rebirth. The Greeks used to associate the cicadas with music and immortality. They are linked to Apollo- the God of music.
Some would say they are even associated with Muses, goddesses of the arts.
