Valentines PokéPuns 4/4! Whew!! That’s a wrap on these guys. I worked hard to draw THIRTY Pokémon Valentine’s Day Cards for a family party and I’m surprised I actually got them done on time! Although, to be fair, I did only pick Pokémon that were simpler to draw. I think the one I had the most difficult time with was Treecko just because it had more than, like, 1 or 2 primary shapes to break down.
This is actually my first time *really* sitting down and drawing Pokémon, despite it being such a huge part of my childhood. I remember growing up and wishing on stars almost every night that Pokémon could be real one day. Unfortunately, we won’t ever see REAL Pokémon, but have y’all seen that realistic Olaf (Frozen) robot that they’re releasing into one of the Disney parks? Apparently, Disney made a super realistic, AI-controlled Olaf that is programmed to respond how Olaf would. He also has programmed movements that are supposed to mimic how he is in the movie to make him more charismatic. I mention this because I can imagine Nintendo making something like this for Pokémon, probably starting with Pikachu and the Kanto starters. I’m incredibly AI-averse, and just the mention of AI grinds my gears, but if I saw a commercial in the next 10 years for a “real life” Pikachu… I don’t know if my morals could stand up against my nostalgia! 😭
Anyways, I’ll try to get some digital art done since I feel like Instagram favors digital over traditional, but it’s so easy to whip out a pen and pencil and just doodle instead of having to turn on my whole rig. 😩 And I’m still getting used to my new tablet, so it’s like every piece I draw is for learning instead of just fun.
